I’m new here - how to deal with society pressures?

Hi! Welcome! I am 92 days sober. I own my company and over the past 13 years have rewarded myself and my employees with happy hours, drunk cruises, and other outings, all of which included heavy drinking. Since I stooped drinking, so have the outings. I haven’t felt strong enough to be around alcohol. The other day I felt my team needed a pick-me-up. So I decided happy hour was in order. They all know I am not drinking. I ordered coffee at happy hour. That in itself is a miracle. Out of the 10 people present only 3 had alcohol. The rest of them were probably relieved they didn’t have to drink. But could choose and not be pressured to drink or not drink. It was me that had thought alcohol was desired by all. It was me that had to drink. So I had my coffee, good conversation and was able to drive home without worry. And so could everyone else. You might be surprised at the support you receive from others on your journey. I know I have been.

I just want to say thanks so much to everybody who’s commented since I posted a week ago. From your suggestions I’ve

• told my friends, boss and partner I’m not drinking
• joined a sober meet up club
• followed the sober community online
• listened to sober podcasts
• socialised with those drinking and picked (and stick to!) mocktails.

I did get unsupportive blunt responses from some I told which I expected but I felt supported enough from you guys to say that’s what I’m doing end of.

So thank you for making such a difference and keep rocking sobriety, you are all amazing  7 days sober!
