I have a problem with alcohol and I’ve ruined my entire life. My partner has left me, I’ve lost my house my job and my life. I have no money or even furniture. I’ve always used alcohol to self medicate due to my mental health problems. I feel rock bottom and suicidal. I now don’t see a way my life can ever improve. I don’t know what to do or where to turn
Annie2: please call this number and talk it out with someone, firstly. You will get through this. And of course we’re here for you as well on the forum. Please just hang on. ![]()

Each day any alcoholic stays sober can be credited as a miracle. Day 1 or day 101 or day 7171, it doesn’t matter, it’s still a day we could not manage before we got help.
As to your feeling of being at the bottom - now the easiest way to go is up. And up and up. Little by little - that first morning waking up hangover free. The times you walk by old haunts or turn down a drink with a simple “No thank you”. That incredible relief we can get at an AA or other meeting of alcoholics who understand where we’ve been and what we’ve seen.
Here’s the thing about faith and trust - none of us could see the ways that our lives improved. But I tell you, it does get better and better. Good vibes, born of sober living, build on themselves, up and up and up.
Here’s a quote from a newspaper article I keep up on my fridge. I have no idea any more of the context.
”This is all going to turn out just fine,” he said. “It’s just a little different from what I’m used to.”
@Annie2 Welcome to TalkingSober. Like you, I have lost things such as a good job, money, and health. But take it one day at a time. When you start stacking up more sober days, things will change.
Thankyou everyone for your support. I’m struggling so much today. I just don’t feel like things will ever get better or that I’ll ever feel better. Days now just feel like something to get to the end of. . Feel so broken. I’m still sober though
You’re still sober! I know you have a lot going on and a lot of healing to do, but that is something to be proud of.
I know that right now it doesn’t feel like it can get better, but I promise promise promise it can. And it will.
Thank you for being here. ![]()
Let’s stay sober together for today. Stay with us read and post . This community is here for you.
Thankyou. I just feel so exhausted so lost so tired of my head. So ashamed of all the mistakes I’ve made
Annie, we are here. We know what it’s like. Talk to us, lean on us. What you build today, however tiny, will be there to support you tomorrow. It’s really just ONE day at a time.
Annie, have you got your basics down? Are you eating? hydrating? Looking after yourself? Start with those basics and concentrate on today only, you have us to keep talking to and for support….get your basics down and you can build from there with us xx
I’m drinking lots of fizzy pop as I’m finding it helps me not to crave alcohol quite as much. I’m trying to eat but I’m really struggling to. I’m also struggling to look after myself and even do the simplest of things like brush my teeth or get washed. I can’t push myself to do it today it feels impossible. I will try tomorrow though
