I'm new to this, hello

I have no idea were to begin to help my self move on. I have joined AA and I will no longer drink, but I feel overwhelmed with regret and embarrassment from how I have behaved. I’m to ashamed to leave my flat today incase I bump into anyone.

Hi @apk. First of all let me assure you that many of us on here have been in that place. I certainly have. For now if you really feel to uncomfortable about meeting certain people then don’t. But also don’t isolate yourself from the world. The fact you have joined aa means that you know that your time of regret wasn’t the real you and you want change.
Most folks on here understand this and know there will be reason(s) for you being where you were in your life. Keep coming back and read some other posts and you will see that in a way you fit in. You may want to open up at some point, but by all means its all in your time and you don’t have to. We try to have a bit of fun as well and joke and laugh. Keep it up. Stay sober and hope to here from you soon

You are not the only here that thinks they made a wreck of it either. Good choice to stop, good choice to go to AA. You can still make good choices

We’ve all felt the shame of things done in the past but stick with AA and you’ll soon figure out the solutions

Hi,

I had the same problem after a few “incidents” and I felt humiliated to go out into the street again, but I used the CBT technique to put myself out there and it worked. A couple of people said something like sobered up yet but I simply laughed it off which gave me an overwhelming calming feeling as I arrived back home. Don’t hide from the world as everyone has their demons; hidden or not!

Times a great healer I know it’s an old saying and I bet we’ve all done things we regret. Stay the strong :relaxed:

Welcome apk, you are on a journey like the rest of us to be the best version of yourself. Let the past go and start anew, when you feel yourself being pulled back to old habits, pick up this app and read the posts until the feeling has passed, you will be so proud you did. Good luck!!
