Today im 5 days sober. Its not alot like everyone else but i have to feel its something to be proud of. I was in the hospital this last week and got help getting clean. Now its my job… i know im still in a volatile position because i beg my husband every night to but me just one little bottle and he of course says no. I want to get to where i dont beg. When do those cravings for drinking stop? It makes me feel pathetic.
I have no idea when that stops, maybe it’s different for everyone?
Just stay sober today, and tomorrow you stay sober that day ok
Welcome to the community. All i can say is that when i decided to quit (30 days ago) I knew that I had to .. for myself (I took a bad fall on a slippery garage fall) and to try to save my marriage. It has been very hard..your husband wants you to get better! I’ve been drinking lots of water and coffee and Lacroix, and when the weather is nice like today, put in my earbuds and favorite music and go for a walk. Good luck..and feel free to reach out to the community.
Welcome Kristin and congrats on 5 days. Reading your story there’s work to do. Like for us all. Why do you long for a drink? What good does it bring you? For me it was forgetfulness. But that never worked, because the next day my problems were still there, a little bit worse than before, and needing a little bit more to drink to forget. And on and on in an ever downward spiral.
Now I’m working on a better life, working on my problems, making slow progress one day at a time. I don’t need to drink no more. The freedom from that is incredible friend. We all need a plan how to work on a better life. And we all need our peers, like you have found us. Welcome again, wishing you all success, hoping to see more of you. We are in this together. Hugs.
Welcome to the forum @Renee1621 I generally find that the more work you put into your sobriety the more you get out of it have you looked about going to meetings it also great to have like minded people to connect with and get phone numbers off , this place is great too for you can come on anytime day or night and there will be someone on for help or advice I would advise reading round the different threads there so much information here
Have to divert your thinking for me i went to meetings met new friends kept myself busy wish you well
Im going to my first meeting in twenty something years tonight. Hoping the extra support will help. I struggle mainly at night so i figure evening meetings would be the best for me, idk, but it cant hurt to try. Thank you for the support.
Welcome and Congratulations on 5 days!!!
5 days is amazing! The strength comes by getting thru the uncomfortable cravings. Sobriety is a muscle you need to train. Keep at it and stay safe. If you feel like you cant say no dont put yourself in a situation to fail
Welcome here! Stay, read around and be part of this community. It has helped me to change my life for the better.
This Naked Mind helped lessen my cravings. I cannot recommend reading it highly enough.
I have a variation on “one day at a time” for you to try when the craving hits. ONE drink - ask yourself, do you TRULY want ONE drink? Just one? My bet is the answer is no, you’re looking for oblivion like everyone else who struggles with alcohol. 2 drinks, 5 drinks, who knows where it stops.
I never want just one, so it has to be none.
