Insomnia in recovery

I am only a few days sober but was wondering (for people who have had longer abstinence) how long it took to get back to a regular sleeping pattern?

I’m only 29 days in. But I’ve found my sleep has been impacted by sobriety. Not really in a bad way. I’ve been getting better sleep, so I’ve found I need less sleep. So I think some early insomnia, may not be true “insomnia.” Not sure what time you go to bed, or how much sleep you need. But I was able to figure that out pretty quickly. 7 hours of sleep is my sweet spot. I go to bed around 9, try to make it to 10. So I’ve been waking at 4-5 am. This morning it was 3:30. But that’s because I did a bunch of yard work yesterday and crashed at 8-8:30. Before, if I was wide awake at 3:30, I would have called that insomnia. When really it’s just I’ve gotten the sleep I need. Now, if I don’t want to be up this early, I have to do an adjustment to my sleep schedule. But I’m happy with 4-5am, so I won’t adjust. (Could do without 3:30 lol) shit, I wake up now when I used to be going to bed after a night of drinking. I’ve never been a night owl unless I’m drinking. Don’t enjoy staying up late, but I love my quiet mornings with coffee before the rest of my house is chaos. So I think really look at you sleep patterns, schedule, and needs. Adjust if needed. Hope you get some rest. The first couple weeks are a trip, so just try to hang on for the ride and you’ll start finding your footing! Congrats on 3 days!!! :muscle:t3: and welcome to the TS fam!!

I struggle with sleep also some nights I only get a couple hours of sleep others are a whole night I’ve got 34 days sober today and I’ve been struggling since I got clean this time

I’ve always had insomnia. I’ve always been a night owl. Since getting sober just 5 days ago it’s so much worse. I am not sure if I’ll ever have a “normal” sleep schedule unfortunately but I’ll settle for my old insomnia :joy:

Congratulations both of you for your sober time  yeah I think I’ll need to set up a consistent sleeping schedule and with a bit more sober time it will get better. I generally go to bed early and rise early. I enjoy my morning coffee and little morning routine. I am getting back to my sobriety lifestyle (I was sober for 5 years before my father’s passing 2 years ago) and as we all know, sobriety is so much better than being a slave to substances! Have a great day :sunny::sunglasses:
