Intake for IOP

When I got sober the first time I did so largely with a combination of books, AA meetings and one on one counseling. When I relapsed recently and saw my counselor we thought an intensive outpatient program would be a good idea since I had never been through a formal program. Also a good way to get my toolbox and coping skills back in shape while building more emotional and social support. Scheduled my intake appointment for next week and will continue to see my counselor while I’m in the program.

Ive done a few IOPs, in different areas also. They were all really good programs and very helpful. It set the foundation up for my sobriety. Very informative and helpful! Good for you for deciding to do the program.

I just “graduated” from IOP yesterday. Been through 6 months of group before, but found my way back out there for more research.

IOP can be very helpful with finding and connecting with people who have a common interest of sobriety, learning more of the workings of effects of drugs and addiction on the brain and emotions. Like any program you get out what you put in, and this go around I was a lot more proactive in my own recovery instead of the bare minimum, enough to get by.

Go in with an open mind and no judgement. Like meetings there will be people at varying stages of sobriety, and probably a rainbow of DOCs.

I really want this and plan to do just that. If I put in the work I know this prigram can help me get to 90 days and beyond.

Some counselors are better than others it seems. The guy who graduated me was awesome. So relatable, put shit in laymens terms and made it easy to grasp. Even gave me the inkling of an idea of becoming a counselor myself someday, I’ve never had that thought or desire before. You can achieve anything you set your mind too, your sobriety is yours and yours alone, so coddle it and love it to death

I have had really good and really bad, but benefited from the group regardless. Ain’t nobody fuckin with my recovery lol. I too had to go out for more ‘research’. I consider myself well schooled in relapse and clueless at recovery haha.

Man, I ABSOLUTELY LOVED my IOP. I think you will dig it. There is pretty much no religious ideology, at least in the ones here. The other thing I liked was the small group. Mine maxed out at nine, but was usually five or six of us. Got to work a lot of stuff out, personal, emotional, recovery, mental health, and so much more. Like stated above, you get out what you put in. ENJOY FRIEND! And make sure to let us know!

Counselors at the IOP today were great. I was a bit anxious as one of the new group members but I know this will pass with time. I can already see this will be a great chance to work out stuff I have been ignoring and get a solid start in Recovery Part 2. Worth the investment.

It will probably pass much faster than you think. I talked on my first day, but not much. Second day I talked a bit more and felt more comfortable. Third day, shit, I was all in! Don’t feel intimidated. Just do you and be honest and things will work out.

It’s all about recovery, you get out what you put in. Glad it was successful, says a lot about where YOU’RE at and where YOU want sobriety and recovery to take you.
