I have this idea for a thread of all the ridiculous thought processes we went through while using. I’ll go first when my blood work came back with liver problems. I went to a nutrition store and asked them if they had something good for Cleaning, the liver. In other words, the thought of quit drinking, didn’t cross my mind, just find a pill or a powder that would make it go away and wash it down with a 12 pack of beer. Anyone else remember certain things you used to think/do that now you look back and say, what was I thinking?
And I actually told the truth to the guy that was helping me. I said look, I drink about a 12 pack a day and my liver test came back abnormal. Do you have anything that will clear it up? You should’ve seen the look on his face.
Oh yes, I used to take milk thistle supplements, until I listened to an audio book from Craig Beck, and he said something like “if you think milk thistle supplements are the solution to your problems instead of quitting alcohol you’ve clearly missed the point”
I’m still struggling with addiction, but milk thistle supplements are no longer on my shopping list… Boy I’ve done some weird shit! Lemon water in the morning, fresh garlic tu purify, you name it!
I would try anything the next day to cure a hangover. I even remember googling one time “what is the best hangover cure” and the answer was “the best way to cure a hangover is to not drink” and I was like whatever, not taking that option and kept searching for false remedies.
I even a couple times got suckered into buying hangover aids off instagram ads. Truly 100% believing they were the answer, only to be disappointed when it didn’t work. Don’t even want to know how much $ I spent. I also would drink pickle juice a lot bc someone once said that would work? I would try anything.
That’s exactly what I was looking for, milk thistle. Another thing I used to do is when I would get super sick from drinking, I would change brands as if that’s the problem.
I thought it was completely normal behaviour to drink until I puked , then go back out and keep drinking like nothing happened and many nights repeat that cycle a few times . Like vomiting was just my body”s way to make room for more alcohol not my body literally trying to get the poison out of me .
Specific for drinking and specific hungover occasions: a vodka with a raw egg in it .
More in general for addiction: it’s just totally nuts how i told myself I wasn’t addicted to substances, smoking at least a gram of weed -much more for many years- or hashish daily for decades. While at the same time binging booze a couple of times a week and going out every week, doing all sort of drugs excessively. And when I quit smoking starting to drink daily, ever more, untill all I wanted to do was die. And only then, 40 f*cking years in, finally realizing I was an addict and maybe it would be an idea to quit it all. Because I didn’t really wanted to die just yet.
Cant think of which one i want to share so ill edit or add to this later maybe.. but my favourite i heard, I have a relative that would drink alot of red wine daily. While drunk oneday. They told me that the only reason they drink so much wine is because its made from berries and has lots of anti oxidants in it.. …..
Drink juice then lol…. ?
That was a wake up call for me to see the insanity and straight up denial in someone else’s drinking addiction well before I saw it in myself.
This is a neat idea. I remember I would drink a bunch of water in between shots and think I was being healthy enough. Also I would do things like drink two or three shots in a row and then a nonalcholic beer thinking that would help me cut down. Health and fitness . Lol. Some truly crazy thinking. That’s just some of it too
I used to think because my main drink was Prosecco I didn’t have a problem because it wasn’t a spirit until I started adding vodka into the mix, thinking it would hide the smell and less calories……I still didn’t have a problem though
That everything is fine because I only drink on weekends and holidays and never on Sundays except if Monday is off. That getting black out drunk is normal, funny even. That massive hangovers and puking all day long is just who I am. That drinking is relaxing and fun and sober people are so fucking boring.
That nobody noticed how drunk I was cause everyone was drunk same as me.
Nopes. Not everybody was drinking as much as me, not everybody was drunk. Now I know.
