I haven’t been to AA in a year, is God and my faith enough along with the AA literature??

God can be higher power , a power greater than yourself
Hi there! Welcome to the forum 
To answer ur question (amd this is my opinion), but the purpose of the 12 steps is to get us in touch with a Higher Power of our own understanding. I believe in God. The meetings are great, dont get me wrong. As we need support thru this journey. We cant do it alone. But it wasnt until I fully surrendered to Him, that the mental obsession for drugs and alcohol was removed. That was over 4.5 years ago. If i do the work daily to connect with my HP, i continue to arrest my addiction. I dont think its absolutely necessary to attend meetings but I do think that there needs to be some sort of support in ur corner. For me, it was this community. I rarely attended AA or NA when i got clean thia time around (I was in the rooms for 10 years prior but struggled with sobriety). Maybe this community can be that support for u too

I think the most import thing is to show up and listen and learn from others. And then to help others. Anything that gives me serenity can be my higher power.

Welcome. To answer your question, yes it’s enough. The actions you take are critical though. Connecting with other sober people, making praying habitual, and if you’re doing AA as your means of recovery going through the steps with a sponsor. It’s life changing if you put your full effort into it. For now I’d just suggest going to a bunch of different meeting and listening though. Connect with others, keep showing up, and if you have the willingness the rest will fall into place over time. Best wishes

It might be an unpopular opinion, but I‘ll throw in my two cents: IMO it’s your own actions and choices that make the difference in the end.
You need to find out what helps you to work on your recovery. If God, faith or AA help you, that’s fine. Lots of people find other programs helpful that don‘t involve any religious aspects and are sober without God.
You have to do your recovery work by yourself, but you don’t have to do it alone. Lean on this community anytime you need! Listen, read and learn what works for you.
