My therapist once told me that i had a lapse from drinking after a streak of not drinking, not a RELAPSE just a LAPSE… Which i thought was interesting… But i didnt really know the difference and the meaning of each term independently and how it accordingly fit into alcoholism or sobriety… Does anyone have any insight on this?
This gets talked about a lot on here. Slip-lapse-relapse. They all have one thing in common, using instead of not using.
I am not sure why there is a need to put quantifiers on it but the practice is very common.
not sure what your therapist is trying to say but if you only drink once after quitting that’s a lapse, everytime after that must be a relapse, I’m not even being sarcastic I’m just trying to be logical. if we don’t drink again it won’t matter a dam what people call it.
Me neither, but to clarify im drinking right now havent drank since Sunday so this coming sunday would b a week… :’( and i feel like I just cheated… And u cant cheat in sobriety right? Im pretty sure u can’t… So i wish their was an app that was able to have all this that this app has but also know when we as ‘addicts’ swallow or inject something we know we r trying to get off of permanently, so it can catch our faults… If that makes sense…
strangely yes it does make sense and it’s not an app but it does exist, it’s called your mind. It always knows when your going to drink. The bit we need to learn is don’t listen to it. That’s where this app comes in, I’ve messed up so many times and every time I asked for help after but never before. I’ve known people to have 2 hour phone calls until the urge has gone. REACH OUT!!!
Do something really powerful if its in the house now, I poured mine down the loo, I took control. Try it it’s invigorating. Horrible but invigorating.
I’ve had times where I’ve created a thread and checked in here every 5 (or 3, or 1) minutes, just to keep myself accountable until the thought passed. I set a timer.
