The first couple of months can feel rough and lonely and really did for me. But surely not as bad as starting back at day 1 again right
??.

Great work on the 46 days stacked so far.

It does get better.

The first 90 days are said to generally be the hardest and first major milestone alot of people aim for. Hence youve probably heard or read here posts before where people talk about “90 meetings in 90 days”.

Perhaps try to think of it from a different perspective maybe. Look at what an awesome accomplishment that is already.. 46 days is now Just past halfway to 90days .. Why on earth would you want to stop now? Past the half way mark so keep on going!!

Get to 90 days. See how you feel. Then think… only 10 more days till 100 days. Thats TRIPLE FRICKEN DIGITS!!! i felt imense joy hitting these milestones. Trust me. It is worth it. Its not sunshine and rainbows. But it is objectively a better way to live.

Hey Gabby

I hear you, and have been there too.

I can tell you that spending time here talking with some of these good people helped with that.

I also got some great advice here which has stayed with me, so I’ll share it. “Put as much time and effort into your sobriety as you did your addiction”

think about that.

All those hungover mornings (alcohol DOC in my case) when we stayed in bed and achieved nothing? Now I go to the gym and running clubs… I meet people.

all those drunk nights at the bar I can’t remember? Now I spend quality time with family, l work late and use the time saved in the day to play an occasional game of tennis with a friend. I play in a low stakes poker league and actually win sometimes rather than getting drunk and losing.

I had to get proactive about meeting people who were not “drinking friends”. It took time and I still get lonely sometimes, but it’s getting better.

I miss the highs but sure and anything do not miss the lows.

Congrats on your 46 days sober.

It does feel lonely at times. I’m 4.5 years sober and loneliness gets to me. I had cut ties with a lot of so-called friends after getting sober. Don’t have a lot of people to connect with. But honestly, being alone isn’t as bad as I thought. Rather, be alone than be surrounded by a bunch of fakes.

Practicing gratitude gets me by. I also have my kids, and they keep me busy.

I thought about the days when I was a kid. Before drugs and alcohol. I used to enjoy doing things alone. Skateboarding, riding my bike, etc. And I had a blast. I got back on the skateboard, and it’s been going well.

Find something you enjoy doing. AA wasn’t for me personally, but you can try a meeting. There are a lot of good ppl there.

Staying connected to this place has kept me sober.

Congrats on 46 days sober! Quiting drinking is only part of the equation. You also need to build community and fill your sober tool belt. Like Mno says the opposite of addiction is connection.

How can you build community? I found community here, visiting/sharing/supporting others daily. I found community with likeminded sober warriors in the AA fellowship. I tried smart recovery and dharma recovery to see where i felt most supported. I also joined a ladies only gym and built connections there. There are opportunities to find community if you look for them.

I can relate to the lonliness and i felt that when my only coping skill of drinking was taken away but i found some fulfillment by getting curious, relearning who i am as a sober person, and finding community.

It wont always feel like this @Chicagabriella reach out like youre doing here and take positive action. Sending hugs

It does feel lonely sometimes but it’s worth it to be well and sober . This community has given me the sober connections I need so far . I have a friend who I meet up with and spend sober time with like coffee , walks movies ect. I just don’t drink with her .

I’m thinking of joining the Gym at some stage when I have built up my funds again .

I have jumped back into my hobbies , like gaming , painting, cooking and crafts and getting out for walks and exploring .

46 days is awesome :star_struck:

We’re here for you as a community everyone here is so supportive :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

I hear you
I am 12 days and feel like a lonesome
Especially during the weekend
I know it will pass
If you are not sober, you are running away from yourself
When you get sober you face your true self
It might be scary and lonely, but this is a part of recovery and getting to know yourself better

Congratulations on your 46 days. Just a possibility, but it may feel libely if you have just removed alcohol and not added anything. What with the actual drinking, and then the hangovers, being alcoholic was very time consuming. Even when I was active in recovery work, I had a lot of leftover time. Many people get into cooking, running, reading, etc, but whatever makes you feel joy or satisfaction, start doing more of it.
