It’s hard to quit with anxiety

This is going to sound stupid but I swear I’m addicted to weed. I have an incredibly addictive and hyper fixative personality/brain. I probably have undiagnosed adhd.

I used it to check out of life for the better part of 18 months daily. I just walked around in a depressed stoned haze. Now my anxiety is so bad and it’s been 2 days. I’m doing this to be a better mother for my daughter and to have so many job opportunities. Can I just get some kind words and positive affirmations today? I’m craving it with this anxiety

Welcome to the community. I’ve always had untreated anxiety and instead of going to a physician and getting treated for it. I tried to drink through it, to numb out. Which made it 1000 xs worse. When you quit your Doc anxiety usually spikes pretty hard for a little while. If you can push through that it does get easier. But I would also advise you to make an appointment with you Dr.and tell them what’s going on. :v:

Hi and welcome @kirky, I was addicted to weed for about 10 years but the anxiety got really bad towards the end so I managed to quit, and then switched to alcohol which I abused for over 20 years, I’ve been trying to get sober on and off for about 2 years and anxiety always unbearably spikes when I do but then amazingly is settles down to a level I’m not used to, so its definitely worth sticking it out.

I’ve been on meds for years to help with anxiety but I’ve realised they really work 100x better when I don’t have other substances messing around with my thoughts, go see a Dr and explain honestly what you are going through, and good luck getting through the shitty first few weeks then things really start to improve

It gets a lot easier, I used to be a daily smoker. Now people can smoke right in front of me and I don’t even crave it.

Keep telling yourself it’s not really what you want (the smoker life). My anxiety about marijuana came from wanting it but not having any. Your anxiety will lessen soon. Until then try deep breathing exercises and guided imagery. That helps a lot with anxiety. Also diet coke is magic for anxiety.

It gets better and you’ll be so glad you’re not wasting time and money on it anymore.
