It Was Hard to Admit That I Have an Addiction

I’m 26 years old, and for a long time I was ashamed to admit that I struggle with addiction. I never thought something like this could happen to me. People often see me as kind, loving, positive, caring and maybe that’s why it felt even harder to say out loud. But the truth is, alcohol became a way to escape pain I didn’t know how to carry anymore. For a while, it made me forget. It numbed the sadness, the emptiness, the heaviness inside me. And slowly, without even realizing it, I fell deeper and deeper into it. One day I had to look at myself honestly and admit the words I was terrified to say:
I have an addiction. I am an alcoholic. That realization broke me, but it also became the beginning of healing. Now, every single day, I work on myself. Some days are harder than others, but I’m trying. I’m learning to face life without hiding from it. I’m learning to forgive myself, to grow, and to become stronger than the pain that once controlled me.And maybe the reason I’m sharing this is because I hope someone out there reads this and feels less alone. Addiction does not make you weak, evil, or unworthy of love. Sometimes the people who smile the most are fighting the deepest battles in silence.

Thanks for sharing!

I don’t know if my assumption is correct but I have the feeling that this is a silent battle that you have been fighting without telling other people, am I right?

If so, I can relate so much.

Hi Maybe try a meeting they helped me get sober wish you well

I’m glad you shared :folded_hands:
Did you get checked for depression? What you describe can be a form of self-medicating depression by alcohol. Just a thought.
Keep on going :sunflower:

Thank you for sharing :orange_heart:

I can relate a lot. Escaping the pain, having to realise you have to go through it to heal. It´s so painful and almost feels impossible at times. I use alcohol ever since I was 18, as a way to cope with life and CPTSD. I know this is just surviving and I want to learn how to live.

Wishing you love on your healing journey :pink_heart:
