Itchy skin anyone help?

I quit drinking again. Day 1. I’ve been drinking alot and I feel itchy all over. I looked up and it said kidney disease or liver disease. I have had horrible anxiety thinking about this. I have horrible allergies. I never had problems with itchy skin. I had a physical 6 weeks ago and my blood test came back fine.

Hi @Corey1982 , I’m sorry you’re feeling so anxious. I’m in the uk so don’t know if my advise here would help but…first and foremost if you feel very unwell you should seek medical attention. I felt very anxious in the beginning so this is what I would/did do…Do you have any antihistamine tablets available? Take one of those with a big drink of water, it could be an allergy to something quite simple for starters. Next try to just take a minute. You are ok. Anxiety can have us thinking the very worst and whipping ourselves up to bursting point. You said you had a blood test not long ago and that was ok so if there were anything majorly sinister I’m sure it would of shown up in that. Now you have to try to breathe…… well done on starting your sober life. Maybe now get an appointment with your doctor and discuss your detox with them.

If you had blood work done 6 weeks ago, I highly doubt something just came up. Might be allergies, dry skin or a reaction from the WD. Don’t drive yourself nuts, if it continues get with your doctor. Lotion up and relax your mind for now

I swear quitting alcohol makes me a hypochondriac

I never been a drinker, but I’m understand how WDs work, since I’ve quit opiates and other drugs and have massive anxiety, obsessive negative thoughts, ect. I’m sure you’re fine, especially if you just had blood work, but like I said if it continues for longer than expected maybe reach out to doctor. As days go on the anxiety will go away, hang in there, we all been through this shit, it passes.

I had quite a few skin issues when I quit drinking, for about a year actually. Lots of itching, random rashes, I have a cabinet full of various ointments and creams from my doctor. Nothing worked. Eventually it just stopped being a problem but it took a while. I had bloods done and nothing indicated kidney or liver issues. Could simply be your body working itself out, it’s going through big changes.

And obsessive thoughts, hypochondria, I struggle with that too. Meditation has helped me a lot with that side if things, perhaps give it a go. Worth a shot if you haven’t tried before.

Of course, see a doctor if it persists, but don’t get caught up in Google searches, probably the worst thing you could do.

All the best :+1:

I had itchy skin around day 5-12 of writing alcohol, it’s a symptom of DTs, your body detoxing. It goes away but it’s awful distracting. It was bad on day 5 and almost gone by day 12. I tried to keep busy to keep my mind off of it.

Hi Corey,

I recently quit and was wondering about how long did the itching last?

I relapsed. Quit for 45 days was my longest. After about 30 days it quit itching from what i can remember.

I’m at 34 days today, I had some itchy patches myself mid month first month and some red dots in different places. They’ve mostly gone away but it’s also winter so that can affect it. Some other folks told me that can happen also as your body rids itself if toxins like alcohol. Best advice if it’s really bad is see a doctor, doctor google will always convince you you’ve got cancer or liver failure lol.

Hi! Exercising, drinking a lot of water and eating healthy food help a lot. I had a blood test a year ago and everything looked fine until I asked for ultrasound and they found that I had fatty liver but it didn’t show up in the blood test :woman_shrugging:t2: and my skin was itchy too. So after three months of exercising, drinking a lot of water and no alcohol I had an ultrasound again and everything looked good. Thank God I don’t have a fat liver! Some people have a sensitive skin for winter too. This gel my doctor recommended helped me a lot with the itchy skin!

Thank you for sharing your experience. I also have fatty liver so that also explains allot. I’ve been exercising more and I will increase my water intake. I’m 18 days clean and I’ll keep pushing for a healthier me.

Congratulations for your 17 days clean!! Let’s go for more days!!
I will share with everyone how to clean a fatty liver after my research, my doctor was surprised when she saw in the ultrasound that I don’t have a fatty liver anymore because usually take like 6 months to clean the fatty liver, for me took 3 months to cure fatty liver. The fruit papaya in smoothie is good for liver too.

Hi Chris, I hope your itching has improved. I think a lot of us have experienced this after quitting. It does improve, it will take a bit of time.
Stay hydrated & be super kind to yourself. I see you’re nearly sober. You’ll be feeling a lot of things, physically & emotionally. Just take it day by day, even minute by minute if needs be.
