Anyone train jiujitsu? I started years ago to help with addiction. And it’s worked for a long long time. Last place you want to be on a come down is on a jiujitsu mat.
It gave me a new focus and desire to learn something new. I now coach and train as much as my body will allow and it really does make a difference.
I started my martial arts journey about 4 months after my last drink. I trained primarily in Krav Maga, Boxing and Muay Thai, with some adjunct training in Filipino Kali and Lethwei. After earning my Black Belt in Krav, I became a part-time instructor at my school. Eventually, I decided I no longer enjoyed professional sales, which I had done for 25 years, and became the manager of my school, as well as a full-time instructor. Did this for about 18 months when the owner informed me he was closing the school at the end of his lease. Not wanting my students to be orphaned, I opened my own school. Currently, I am a 3rd Degree Black Belt in Krav. In addition to Krav, we teach Boxing and Dutch Kickboxing, Filipino Martial Arts, and Japanese Jujitsu. I am a student in the last two programs, and currently hold a Green Belt in JJJ. I am also going through the certification process to teach Yang Tai Chi. Martial arts is central to my life and is the bedrock on which my sobriety has been built. I plan to be a practitioner of the arts for the rest of my days. Even if I’m too old to do the hard arts, I will still do Tai Chi.
