Just decided to quit my gambling addiction

Hi everyone, i’ve been having thoughts about quitting my gambling addiction for a while now!
So i just started the sobriety countdown on this app…

My name is jacob & have been heavily addicted to slot machines since 2017 i would say… it is not affecting me on the monnetary side as im.still able to pay my bills and have foods in the fridge but i do have an issue… seeems like whatever i do i always come back to that damn casino site … i can spin for hours upon hours during a day …

sometimes i do win big & i also take my losses like a men but thats not really about that, thats mostly for my mental health that i am wanting to quit … for example if im watching a movie or videos on youtube i feel bored and i tell my mind to go there and have a spin to feed that urge … it is very unnescessary and i know that but im feeling good when i am in this spinning-bubble …

Anyones have some kind of advices for me to start my recovery on a good note !?

Thank you guy!
Happy new year.

Hi Jacob! Welcome to TS. My advice would be to definitely take care of this now. Addictions only get worse with time. Once that pathway to the brain is set, it’s the monkey on your back. Just because your addiction is a behavioral one doesn’t mean that the common sobriety tools don’t apply. Those such as, moderation doesn’t work, avoid triggers, play it forward, have a plan for those times of weaknesses, etc. I would also check out a Gamblers Anonymous meeting, on person or online for even more support. Gambling Addictions are no joke and I send you strength and wisdom

I would suggest to first check out a meeting:

https://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/locations

https://www.gamblersanonymous.org/ga/virtual-meetings

I also suggest to others to read information to arm yourself with knowledge:

The Easy Way to Stop Gambling: Take Control of Your Life (Allen Carr’s Easyway) https://a.co/d/6L3rNCV

Also type in gambling addiction in the magnifying glass above. There are others with that addiction. In my studies I have found that gambling has the most detrimental issues associated with it. Yes even more so than alcohol :frowning: I am so glad you are seeking help for it. In my early days, I did everything and anything to get my mind off alcohol. The gym, scrolling through here, shopping, writing, calling old friends, etc. Big hugs and know we are here for support if you need it.

Thanks for joining us! That is awesome you have recognized the need for change. Those machines are designed to keep you addicted.

That’s great advice to find support from others. Have you told any friends or family?

There are also hotlines you can call for support. There was one called 1-888-BETSOFF I heard of before. It sounded like a great resource. My alcohol addiction often turned into gambling alongside
