Welcome @Newdays  :slightly_smiling_face: nice to meet you!

The first weeks, and especially the first days can be rough. Drink lots of water, visit a doctor or an ER if you want - it can help if you are worried.

There’s lots of knowledgeable folks here on Talking Sober who have been through it too. Have a look around and use the search bar (magnifying glass icon) and you will find good info.

Welcome to Talking Sober!

Withdrawal and post-use rebound symptoms can be disheartening. Seek medical help if you need it, otherwise care for yourself as much as possible, staying hydrated and fed as you can tolerate. Warm bath or hot shower can help you for a bit.

The pain of withdrawal, especially for those of us who have “been through this before”, brings to mind a passage from the book “Alcoholics Anonymous” that explains how even bad stuff, really bad stuff that happens as a result of our addiction, can be sublimated and purposefully forgotten. (My emphasis added to the quote)

The fact is that most alcoholics, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so-called will power becomes practically nonexistent. We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. We are without defense against the first drink.

Even in the throes of your withdrawal, you can start building your sobriety. Maybe just reading few stories from the AA book (available free online), or some other recovery-oriented literature, or watching a podcast, whatever you prefer, you can start from now.

Blessings on your house  as you begin your journey.

Youve gotten thru 5 days. Congrats. Just remember the distress and discomfort is temporary. Fight thru it for a better tomorrow.

My first 5 days were really difficult but it got better as time went on and alot better than it ever was when I was drinking.

Huge congrats on 5 days!
