I was reading that this stuff helps with opiate withdrawal. Anyone have any experience regarding this? I guess it is sold over-the-counter. But it still is a drug right?
Hey @Bobbyw I can’t give you much information from experience but, I have seen others talk about this stuff (kratom) on here. Just type kratom into the search field and you’ll definitely get a lot of input. From what I gathered I would never personally want to ever try or use it
Thank you!
I tried to delete the post, but I’m not sure if I can
Ive never tried it. But ive heard terrible things about it. We had a young police officer die overdosing on it here in my home town. Was a good friend of mine growing up.
I listened to this recently. Jason Ellis is one of the coolest people ever! He talks recovery and his experience with it. It doesnt sound fun.
A good buddy of mine went through scary anxiety when he was detoxing from it.
Hi! I know this is pretty late, but I figured as an ex-user of kratom, I could give you my experience.
So, the long story short is that it is a potentially very addictive substance. I started using it when a coworker let me have some and I eventually (actually, somewhat quickly) formed a habit. I kept buying more and more every week, draining my funds pretty quickly. And then I got into extract shots. I’ve tried to quit many many times. The most successful times have been several years ago when it was just powder kratom I was using and the withdrawals lasted about 5 days and I got over it and went clean for 6 months before relapse. The second time was after going on extracts (it lasted around the same time) and I managed for a month (I hadn’t been using extracts for super long). The third and current time, I’m on 8 days and still miserable. The muscle aches are gone but my bowels have been in shreds for 3 straight days. This is a little over a year on those kratom+kava shots, mind you.
Bottom line is that kratom is very much a drug, even if it’s not technically as lethal or as hard to get off of as true opioids. The withdrawals become more hellish the more you use and especially if you use extracts, but even withdrawals from leaf kratom are highly unpleasant and I had to take time off from work early on because the symptoms made work so miserable. I hope this helps, and sorry again for replying so far into the future lol
I will say if you are considering using it for opiate cessation, at the very least, be super careful with it (though it’d be better to find a different way imho) and stay far away from extracts.
Thanks for the clear and powerful testimony.
Of course!
I’m with you I like to chime in anytime this topic pops up bc there is so little information about it and people need to know.
I started using it to avoid opiate withdrawal when I didn’t have pills. Once I quit them for good, I was left addicted to kratom…for years after! I tapered down for months to not feel the same withdrawal I started taking it for in the first place! Wish I never heard of it. I can’t believe it’s still legal
Thank you for posting this. What were the withdrawal symptoms? There is a big discussion in a town near me about whether it should be legal and such. Apparently, kids are taking it as well
First day was fatigue and muscle pain. Second day was muscle spasms, insomnia, and the symptoms of day 1 but worse. 3-4 was all of these but worse. Day 5, the spasms were almost gone and the muscle aches were practically nonexistent, but the fatigue was still there. Day 6 was just fatigue, but day 7, I started having bowel trouble (which caused so much pressure in my stomach that I dry heaved) and I’ve been having diarrhea since then. I’m on day 9 now.
Oh, and chills. Miserable chills that caused me to sweat at night and in the morning, sometimes waking me up earlier than I needed to.
Great job making it day nine! I really hope you feel better soon.
Does this stuff build up tolerance so you need more and more? I know they sell small bottles in tobacco shops, how much is heavy use? Like what is considered a large amount?
Oh definitely. I used to get little bags of kratom leaf that would last me a few days because I only took a few spoonsful a day. But that pretty quickly became not enough. By the end, I was buying whole boxes of extracts shots (12 per box) and could sometimes drink all of them in a day. Considering a box is nearly $100 here, that’s neither healthy nor financially viable. And I ended up messing up my stomach lining and being violently ill one day. It’s hard for me to say what heavy use is exactly, but what I was doing was quite heavy.
That day I got sick was early last month actually, and it was when I truly realised I was at a crossroads. Knew I really needed to quit this time.
Damn, man! I know you’re going thru it! I never did it like that. Not to get messed up, but to feel normal…and just that little bit sucked!
Seriously well done on 9 days That is incredible
Thank you!
Day 10. Bowel problems aren’t any better. Really hoping I get better soon because I’m having to work every day like this.
One thing that can help with the bowl problems is ollipops. I’m not trying to play Doctor, but it’s a soft drink that has prebiotic’s and plant-based fiber. Please please consult with the doctor before hand, but they are good for digestive health I guess.
I take suboxone for opiate addiction, and at one point started using kratum to get off suboxone, but quickly discovered it’s not that different from opiates. The withdrawals were exactly the same, but it didn’t make me feel as good, and there were tons of really messed up side effects. I basically felt like ass 24/7, except for maybe a couple of hours after taking a very large dose. I tried to quit cold turkey, and was sick for a month before finally relapsing. I ended up going back on suboxone and am doing 100% better. Being on kratum was horrible. I would never recommend it.
