Russell brand done an amazing take on the 12 steps programme and broke it down …have a look at this and sit down with your partner and answer the questions , see what your answers are and go from there…this is a good way to open up about to extent you may think your addiction is and what effects it has on you and those around you, hope this is useful for you mate
Hang tough admitting u have a problem is half the battle. I cant say wat can happen if u stop abrupbly some withdrawls can land u in the hospital wich nowadays is not a good idea.
But maybe if u dring and u know its wrong dont continue. I know its a hard time to detox now but i wish u luck and ucame to a god place. Stay stron one moment at a time.
@sylentwar Thanks man, I saw some of the Russel Brand literature and I am probably going to get the audio book, looks very useful. You’ve clearly come a long long way, great to hear sick positivity and I will make it inspire me as I’m sure it does many others!
No worries mate and yeah I’m getting there one day at a time , now I understand the true consequences of this illness and how relentless its pursuit of destroying us is , it’s made me so passionate about putting out there to people …honestly mate I lost 24 years of my life to drink and drugs and I havnt seen my children in nearly 4 years man …dont follow down the same road mate ,honestly i wish to god someone had said this to me all those years ago …but check out the russell brand stuff …the geezer really understands the concept of recovery and helps you understand addiction at its core…

many of us like to think of ourselves as functional alcoholics, I’ve got a job, I’m OK it’s my treat for working hard. Then you have 2 weeks holiday or this virus happens, whatever the reason it doesn’t take long to realise your only sober bc you need to go to work. Me on holiday would be drink 8am until 2am, don’t eat hot food for four or five days and shit my life down the loo. Thank god you’ve got enough wits about you to see this now, I wish you well on your journey.
Welcome. I am glad you are here, and hope you will stay. Whenever I’m asked what I think the difference is between an alcohol abuser, and an alcoholic, I answer thus:
If drinking is interfering with your life, you are abusing alcohol.
If life is interfering with your drinking, you are an alcoholic.
I’m not sure when I transitioned from abuser to alcoholic, but once I realized that I had, it was time to become a non-drinker.
I no longer have any desire to drink, whatsoever. Haven’t been tempted or had a craving since my first month sober. I won’t drink, because I don’t drink.
I tell you this, so you know what’s possible. You can do this by saying “no” to the drink that matters…the first drink. When you do, there won’t be a second or third or eighth. Do this enough, and it becomes part of who you are, and one day, you just might realize that you are a non-drinker.
The challenge is doing what you have to do to say “no”. You have to be willing to do everything or try anything, to gain the ability. For me, it’s been coming here every day for 854 days, which also happens to be the same number of days since my last drink. It’s been picking up a passion, instead of a drink. For me, it’s been martial arts classes.
Whatever it takes. You can do this, if you want to.
Want to.
Welcome! Its a good thing that you realise that you have a problem and you’re doing something about it. This place is super helpful with amazing people.
Welcome and I hope you stay. AA has on line meetings and if you call your local office you may be able to get a sponsor. I got 2 sponsors that way. Also read the AA Big Book. It is free on AA.org. It explains why alcohol effects us like it does. The stories are amazing too. This site is great! The people here are very supportive and friendly. I like it here better than the AA site. It’s more fun here. Lots of things to distract you from thinking of drinking. You can do this. You just need to educate yourself about this disease we have. Knowledge is power and power keeps you strong. Keep in mind there is always someone here since the members are worldwide!
We all started at day one. You just can’t get around that. The fact that you started and admitted you have a problem is half the battle. Hang in there and just handle one day, one hour, one minute at a time. Whatever it takes!
