Lets talk about relapsing

There is a way out. No one needs to be stuck on the relapse merry-go-round.

In addition to being here daily I use the 12 steps of Alcoholics Anonymous to stay sober and live an amazing life. I personally know many others who have the same experience as me.

I was once hopeless in my addiction and couldn’t go more than a few hours without needing a drink or a drug. Now the obsession and compulsion to use are gone. Even if I could get highway or drunk safely I wouldn’t.

According to this definition (that I think is accurate), I had 1 relapse in the 18 years between my first AA meeting and my permanent sobriety. The rest were returns to drinking either as a conscious decision (like @deatle_30 describes), or after willpower driven stints of abstinence. 2 days, a week, even a month were all I could manage on my own.
