Let's talk supplements and vitamins

What do you like?
Specifically-
Vitamins, supplements, protein shakes
I need to know quality brands, please. I have heard that some of these contain a fair amount of sawdust and not much of what the label claims. But how do you tell?
Right now I just take a Multivitamin from Central Market.
Goals- I have been working out a lot recently, looking to get healthier, combat workout soreness and recovery, and supplement my meals.
I often get busy and skip meals, often eating more sugar than I should.

B group vitamins (and C) are the only ones your body can’t store. If you’re not getting them in your food daily then you have no reserves to pull from.
I take a multi-B and an additional B3 (nicotinamide) due to its positive affect on cellular health. You can google to find many science-backed research but here’s a small extract. I take no other vitamins.

Abstract
Nicotinamide, the amide form of vitamin B3 (niacin), is changed to its mononucleotide compound with the enzyme nicotinic acide/nicotinamide adenylyltransferase, and participates in the cellular energy metabolism that directly impacts normal physiology. However, nicotinamide also influences oxidative stress and modulates multiple pathways tied to both cellular survival and death. During disorders that include immune system dysfunction, diabetes, and aging-related diseases, nicotinamide is a robust cytoprotectant that blocks cellular inflammatory cell activation, early apoptotic phosphatidylserine exposure, and late nuclear DNA degradation. Nicotinamide relies upon unique cellular pathways that involve forkhead transcription factors, sirtuins, protein kinase B (Akt), Bad, caspases, and poly (ADP-ribose) polymerase that may offer a fine line with determining cellular longevity, cell survival, and unwanted cancer progression.

Hi Daphne,

I work in a vitamin store and edducated in advice in all kind of supplements. I’m Dutch so I do not know the good brands in your country.
What you need to take depends on your age, diet, lifestyl and medication.
So go to a good drugstore and let someone advice you.
The more expensive brands have better absorb vitamins so that is worth the money!
If you where in my shop and there are no special things I have to take into account I would recomment you a:

Multivitamin
Vitamin C
Omega 3 (fish oil)

A Whey protein ore mixed vegan protein mix for some extra protein if you need some. But if you enrich your food with ā€œnormalā€ protein products like cottage cheese, yogurt, tuna, etc you do not need that.

If your muscles are hurting a lot you can use some extra magnesium as well. It also helps with cramps. A magnesium oil to put on the muscles works as well for that purpose.

Go to a good shop! Also google a bit to be prepared.
But the best way to get your vitamins in is to eat healthy! So eat your greens

I gotta say, these are my recommendations, based on what they’re good for. I don’t necessarily take all of these. I should…sometimes I take them

I don’t have brand names for you right now unfortunately.

Daily: multivitamin. That has bare essentials

Brain, neural & cardiovascular health:
-Fish oil
-Vitamin E
-b complex vitamin
-choline (also for fatty liver)
-bacopa

Immune system & response
-vitamin D + K2
-vitamin c
-zinc
-garlic concentrate (also for heart health)
-oil of oregano
-elderberry syrup

Detox
-apple cider vinegar
-activated charcoal (only take this sparingly 4 hours before or after meds, food, or nutrients)

I take a multivitamin daily, along with the brain health but I don’t take choline or bacopa daily, and I take all the immune stuff daily.

I’ll try to get back with the brands

What the heck is choline?

Yes I would love brand advice please. Your account is set to private, could not DM.

Thank you! Best way to get your vitamins? Real, whole food!

I’m curious about the apple cider vinegar… how do u take it? I heard it tastes awful. But I’ve heard of benefits for weight loss? I could be wrong.

This is true. My problem is I just work odd hours and don’t have a big appetite. I usually eat ince a day then have snacks. A lot of times I forget to eat or do not plan for it, But I am always tired. I am anemic, too.

Brother taught me years ago, just having a banana the morning after. The potassium breaks up the lactic acid that causes soreness.

Does seem to help a bit. :+1:

Herbalife protein shakes, probiotics, multi vitamin, extra D3 and B12 complex. This is breakfast time every day. I usually add fresh spinach to my shake. The rest of the day is whole grains, nuts, whole vegetables and fruit with one serving of organic meat.

Wow thanks for this advice! This will help!

Choline is similar to an amino acid and helps facilitate the synthesis of very essential nutrients in the body.

It’s a natural substance, but for those with things like brain fog, or fatty liver, amongst other things, is very useful.

It’s made in the liver and found in stuff like eggs, meat, nuts, and other foods.

If you’ve ever eaten eggs in the morning and found that your brain feels more ā€œsharpā€, thats choline and the omega oils that are also in eggs.

I take it in a tablet form with a liter of water, although it can also be mixed with some water and lemons to mask the taste. A super juice of Lemons, Pineapple, and a small amount of apple cider vinegar is very healthy.

It is definitely helpful for weight loss.

Nice I might have to try this!! Thank u  I’d probably go with the pill form of it. I can’t see myself drinking it tho. It would probably be a waste of $$ for me cuz I couldn’t do it lol

This is the vitamin pack I take daily. Keeps my body running smooth. I also get my protein from the same website. Its called Machine Whey and its been my go to whey protein for a year now. I take a pre workout from Redcon1 called Total War. The only other supplement is a generic fiber capsule.
