Liver enzymes blood test

Hi i have just had my bloods back abnormal my GGT is 99 and vitamin b12 is 1424 has anyone else had similar results and what diagnosis was it im having other blood works going on just waiting for results then ill after have a ultrasound on my liver has well has a US abdomen

GGT is used to evaluate liver injuy but cannot always be the full picture. Yours is elevated but not too. B12 is important for nerve conduction and is found in animal tissue, so yours is fine at the level you stated.

Liver enzymes- AST/ALT help identify how agitated the liver is as we flogged it from the drink.

If you applied yourself, as many of us have, the work up is neccessary. Gives the clinician a full idea, and you, of the risk of liver cirrhosis, liver cancer and other end organ problems. The imaging will help more so on a complete eval, obviously.

We don’t have to or need to ever drink again my friend.

B12 can also be elevated as a result of alcoholism & liver damage. I’ve also seen folks on occasion with normal liver enzymes with active cirrhosis, so it’s not always a great indicator. (Not meaning to scare OP, however).

To OP: Glad the work up is being done. Particularly the scan/imaging. And glad you’re here on the forum with us!

But yes, absolutely, we never have to drink again. This is the number one thing we can do to protect our resilient liver and start the healing process.

Totally agree that if a liver is near non-functional elevated enzymes will likely not be there. Alk phos due to biliary congestion will be a better indicator.
