Edit: The IGDA (international game developer’s association) chapter head of my area just mentioned that some areas could have alcohol at their location, especially in Europe, so he said to check before going; however in our area they don’t have alcohol and in a lot of US locations they don’t either. Otherwise, he hopes people will go, meet people, and have fun.

Next weekend is the 2022 Global Game Jam. This is where people from professionals to complete novices gather together to combine talents in order to make games. It’s mostly a learning opportunity that is fun and can be a great opportunity to meet new people.
This is happening all over the world, and ideally you would be able to find a gathering in your city/town. Look here to see what’s available near you.
Perhaps you don’t think you would have anything to offer in this. That’s okay. Still go! This is a good opportunity for you to get out and meet people in an activity that has nothing to do with drinking or drugs. And while I understand that a few people have a gaming addiction, this isn’t about gaming in and of itself, but rather about creating and building something, not mindlessly staring at a screen as your time seeps away from you.
