Hey there. So what are some ways (other than meetings) that you like to try to socialize in and make new sober friends in recovery. Im not the most outgoing forward person when im sober. My social life has been little to none since getting sober and im just frustrated at the lack of fun things to do with people that i have. Its the main thing that has always lead me back to drinking. Loneliness and not wanting to live such a dull life forever. I dont have the money to travel i dunno just seeing what other people have to say? Thanks. Sobriety first! God first!
I felt that way, when I started my aa meetings I felt I was “too young” for them, I got apart of my friends and my friends from me, but with a little bit of time (and some frustration) the true friends appeared… we are in strange ways, but we always make it!!! No matter where you are, if you stay in the recovery life, you’ll find friends and new family (and the best thing we don’t have to do drugs or drinking to be crazy ) the best is yet to come 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻:blue_heart:
Hi, I’m not in AA but like you I needed new people around me with different interest then drinking. What I did was joining a workshop for a new hobby. In my case I did ceramic before and now I’m in a goldsmith class.
When I worked less houres I also vollunteered in a animal shelter.
Maybe you can find something you like to discover in your neighbourhood yourself?
It’s a win/win because doing stuff keeps the mind busy as well
Hi @mtm and welcome to the TS community. Being sober in social settings can be a big adjustment, especially if your addiction was what got you socialising beforehand. What have you tried already? What do you truly value? There are free online tests you can do to find your values. It may sound odd, but knowing your values and finding activities that align with them may be a method you could try. Or you could jump on a bus or train or drive to a totally random place on a whim. Spontaneity is key here. Doing something out of the ordinary, whether it turns out to be fun or meh, can be an experience to talk about with others. An ice breaker. Wishing you the best with your quest!
