Marijuana Cessation

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum. I have been alcohol free for 2 years, 3 months and 14 days. I have decided to be fully sober not just Cali sober. Anyone else on a similar path?

Welcome, I’m glad you’re here! This is a great place to find support and resources of all kinds!

Congrats on your 2+ years of sobriety from alcohol, that’s a big achievement! I too decided to quit THC a little over 9 months ago, which was about 9 months after I quit alcohol. Despite the struggle, it’s been one of the best decisions I’ve made concerning sobriety.

As it turns out, THC was not alleviating my anxiety, it was exacerbating it. I was treating a bullet wound with a bandaid. Not addressing what caused my anxiety and self medicating with THC was always going to be a loosing battle.

A benefit of quitting was the elimination of my addictive thought patterns of “I need more to feel better”, “how am I going to get enough money to make sure I have enough till the end of the month”, and “I’m just not me without it”. All stress inducing mindsets that pushed me closer to alcohol and cocaine.

A really useful and reliable tool I use when dealing with THC cravings is the DBT skill “Urge Surfing”. The link beneath is a good read!

Again, I’m glad you’re here searching for connection. You have found just the right place for that. Please don’t hesitate to reach out, there are a lot of people here who struggle with addiction on a daily basis and who remain sober thanks to support networks, programs and sober tools. You aren’t alone :smiling_face_with_sunglasses::call_me_hand:

Welcome to the forum. I decided that earlier on in my journey, but alcohol was first to go for me as well. It was alcohol that nearly killed me, but after a couple months and a night where I was high but still wanted to drink I realized the weed was just holding me back. Being fully sober can be pretty tough sometimes honestly, but knowing you have no fall back substance forces you to develop real and extremely useful tools. Very rewarding. You’re taking a big step, but also being free of alcohol for over two years is huge so you’ve already taken one huge step. Stay focused and you’ll be good. Great support on here as well

I never planned to quit weed, but being free from alcohol has been so rewarding that I think there may be a bigger better life without weed. :woman_shrugging:t2:

Thank you for your input!

I quit weed first, as that was my main DOC for decades. And it fucked up my life badly for decades too (of course I fucked up my life myself but weed helped a lot). After that my alcohol intake increased to daily. Took me some years to quit that too. Honestly, a life without substances opens up so many new avenues, possibilities, opportunities. Huge congrats on your decision friend! And welcome to Talking Sober, great place, great people, great help. We’re in this together :people_hugging:
