Hello all!
I’ve been in the rooms for a few years now and wondered if anyone knew the origin of the mid-meeting questions that get asked. I’ve been told they aren’t from the “traditional/original” aa, and Google results have proved futile!
“Is anyone in their first 90 days who’d like to identify?
Has anyone had an AA related birthday in the last week?
Is anyone from out of town/out of state?”
(for clarification, I’m Australian, I know different countries’ meetings can differ greatly)
Hi there! I have heard those questions in various 12 step meetings such as NA, AA, CA and OA, but I have never heard them being asked in the middle of the meeting. They are usually asked in the beginning or end of the meeting. I really dont know the origin. Maybe its just to be welcoming to those out of town or to anyone new, and to celebrate anyone taking a milestone

Hello & welcome! Yep, every meeting I’ve been to those are asked upfront & mid is for the 7th tradition, business related stuff, upcoming events & anything else someone wants to pass. Couldn’t tell ya the origin, though.

I don’t think I’ve heard these in general before to be honest and I’ve been to a lot of meetings. I often hear and say myself if I’m chairing in the beginning of the meeting, “Is anyone celebrating an anniversary that would like to be recognized” but not the others. I like the idea of those questions though. Definitely promotes the fellowship and would give an avenue for someone newer to the area or newer in the program to connect
Here in Scotland they ask for anyone who has ione week then up to 6 months for chips .also if anyone has a AA birthday and if anyone is out of town they Welcome them .
