My first week is in the book

Tonight marked one week without alcohol. It was hard getting off work and while i was glad i made this milestone. My mind turned for a second to the only thing i associated with celebrating with. I ended up grabbing my favorite comfort food, chinese. Had an amazing dinner and finished up with a cupcake. How do you all celebrate the milestones??

Huge congrats on your first week!!!

I can totally relate to the initial impulse to celebrate the way we used to - but trust me, it’ll change!

Now? I still like to celebrate with some kind of yummy indulgent meal, or a decadent dessert, or bath bombs that smell amazing, or a new book… or doing something i want to like watching a movie. I think it’s important to reward ourselves, this isn’t easy - especially that first week!

Congrats again, and enjoy waking up on Day 8 with no hangover! :orange_heart:

Congratulations on your first week. You did amazing!!!:partying_face:
Love your celebration meal. Chinese is one of my favourites too.
I think it’s really important to celebrate our little wins and reward ourselves for what we have achieved. For my first month I bought myself a hoodie from the official merch store of the artist that inspired my sober journey. At three months I got a little tattoo on the wrist, related to that same artist.
But with all the money saved on bottles and bottles of wine, I do splash out a bit more on fancy bath bombs or scented candles. And when I go to the cinema, I can now afford the vip seats on a regular basis.

Way to go on surviving your first week without alcohol!!

I like to do something nice for myself like a pedicure or a massage or a new outfit. A treat.

@Cjp i might do some retail therapy. Today for some reason i woke up glad i made it through another day but also kind of down. I dont know if im starting to realize how disappointed i am in my past actions and choices i made with alcohol. The friendships i messed up. I had a great work out this morning i just feel a bit in a slump. Normally i wouldnt go to work and grab the closest can/bottle. Thats not an option for me today just because i dont want that. Its tough.

Hang in there. Personally for me i had that regret and slump and found peace and joy through AA and working the 12 steps. Of course everyones recovery looks different but just wanted to share how i got relief from that shame.

I think a little retail therapy is ok. Just beware alot of us with addiction replace one unhealthy habit with another. So maybe set a budget before splurging to ensure you dont fall into a money trap

I hope you find some refuge from the shame and worry and can find some pride in making it 7 days.
