Because of my Higher Power, the fellowship of AA, my sponsor, and this forum, I’m 180 days sober today.
The picture on the left is 4 days before I became sober. That guy was tired, worn down, drinking a fifth of whiskey a day just to not shake, lying to everyone (including himself), and flat out miserable.
The picture on the right is from last weekend. That guy is at peace with life today. 15 pounds lighter physically, but much more than that mentally and spiritually.
Sobriety hasn’t fallen in my lap. I’ve had to work my ass off for it everyday and change almost everything about my life. The process has been mentally grueling, steps 4 and 5 in AA are a beast to do, but they’re so worth it.
To anyone on Day 1, the promises of serenity do start to come true, but they take time and a ton of work.
It’s all attainable, you just gotta stop digging and start climbing out.
