It’s amazing how we can let our minds advocate for moderation when we battle our addictions. It’s like we justify it (surprise!) and still end up killing ourselves (and others) trying to moderate. So sad! This has been very much my motto like @Eke mentioned:
I googled that story and what upset me more is that I had read something that hinted that at the time of the accident she was actively in AA rather than her own MM so therefore this was evidence that AA was the fail!!! Man, people will do ANYTHING to justify their drinking. Rather than admitting that she couldn’t moderate and needed full abstinence, they said that abstinence didn’t work and that’s why she was drinking and driving.
Most alcoholics will do ANYTHING to justify their drinking. I used to do that myself. I would drink when I was happy, sad, depressed, lonely, angry. Any excuse was enough. In fact I didn’t even need excuses. That’s just how the alcoholic mind works.
AND claim abstinence never works. I’ve even seen posts here that list the stats saying AA doesn’t work. But the thing is, it isn’t AA that didn’t work for those that relapsed big rather that THEY didn’t do the work. I’m not saying AA is the only answer, I’m just saying you can’t blame AA for someone’s relapse. ALCOHOLISM is the reason for someone’s relapse. We are all fighting against alcoholism.
Yeah, crazy and sad story! There were other things wrong about the Org. A member admitted to killing his daughter, but Kishline didn’t go to the authorities for fear of bad publicity of MM. So fucked up!
