I’ve been using cocaine for a year now and trying very hard to stop but as soon as I get up in the morning, I knew I needed to have a line to get through the day. My family don’t know anything about this. It’s been very hard for me to try to stop. Please any advice???
Hi
Firstly welcome and thanks for sharing that.
I too have issues with cocaine. My first line was within 10 minutes of opening my eyes in a morning. I am 5 months and 2 days abstinent after 12 years of substance abuse.
I am here if you need any help.
Its a big leap to stop full of lots of little baby steps.
This is my first time to try sharing in a forum or site. Maybe because I know that it’s very discreet, I don’t have anyone to share all this heavy feelings.
I tried using cocaine before but was able to stop, I really didn’t enjoy it at the time. I was with friends doing lots of other drugs but I felt like all of it has no effect on me.
And just last year, I tried doing cocaine again just for fun by myself. It’s my first time to buy my own bag. I didn’t do it everyday before, just when I think that I needed the extra confidence for an event of something
In my opinion stopping is done by intrinsic or extrinsic factors.
Intrinsic meaning your decision and choice to stop.
Extrinsic meaning the choice of stopping comes from external factors.
Mine was extrinsic. I lost my family and was in trouble with the Police. This got me through my early days.
My family don’t know anything about it..
They don’t have even a little bit of a clue, but I know that it’s starting to disturb my work and sometimes personal relationship
Youve recognised your need for help. I hid it from my wife, kids and parents until it could be hid no more.
You are not alone.
Seek out an NA group. They are anonymous and confidential. There are also CA meetings you could go to. All these are accessible online meetings.
I’ve tried finding NA meetings in my country but unfortunately it’s not available here.
Being an addict is like the lowest of the low here. So a lot of people won’t admit or are scared to tell anyone.
That’s why I tried to find some forum like this to connect to other people from different countries.
Find a worldwide meeting here
online meetings are available 24/7
Hi, I’m sorry to hear about your struggles. I’ve literally just downloaded the app and saw your question first so here looking for advice others will give if that’s ok x
How did you stop? What did you do those first few days/couple of weeks?
Well done also , it’s not an easy task x
Hi and welcome.
I stopped through SMART recovery. Its a self managed process and a 4 point programme.
The first obstacle is not picking up for the first week.
I had the idea to send myself my phone, bank cards and spare cash in the mail. This gave me a couple of days breathing space. When the mail returned i thought about sending it again but it was too conspicuous that i hadnt had my phone on for that time.
I told my parents and joined the recovery groups.
I isolated myself from the outside world by going on the sick at work. This was a mistake as i turned into a bit of a recluse. I hardly left the house for a month. I regret that now but it worked for me.
I learnt about addiction, triggers, urges and cravings. Also come to realise how mentally unwell i had become. My thoughts and behaviours were all over the place. Its hard to fathom the void cocaine leaves you when you give it up after a decade of daily use.
5 months later, i have repaired my mind, repaired bridges ive burnt and finally starting to have a happy outlook on life.
Motivation and distraction are essential tools you need.
Coke isnt your enemy. The greatest enemy is yourself.
Yes. I met someone here who introduced me with some online meetings ![]()
