New here. Gay guy just turned 48 in So Cal

Hey yall. Not new to trying to be sober but I haven’t tried in a very long time. I haven’t been going off the rails like I used to but I got pretty close recently and I don’t want to get back to that. It really starts with boredom for me. After being both of my parents caregiver back to to back and losing them both to cancer I’ve just been in a very depressive funk a lot of the time. A good amount of my friends moved out of state and I just feel very alone. Hoping to meet some cool so Cali people to build some good sober relationships with. I’m an outgoing and funny person who really needs to get back to himself and back to life again.

Welcome to the community, @Irishflava1! I recently lost a parent to cancer as well and went through all the feelings and funk sober. NGL, it wasn’t easy but it’s definitely possible :+1:
Hope you’ll find what you need here, just give us a shout if any of us can be of help.

Welcome to TS :sunflower:
Sorry for your loss. It takes time to grieve and recover from being a caregiver. Give yourself time and share about your feelings. It helped me a lot when my mum died 2 years ago, great community, support and understanding here.
Keep us posted how you are doing :people_hugging:

Welcome to the site.
Welcome to your sobriety.

Lots of good folks here.
Lots of meaningful friendships can be formed here.
We need funny!!

I know absolutely almost nothing about AA.

What I do know is that many people go there and find companionship, and friendship, along with support for their sobriety.

The same with some of the other sobriety support groups, 3D.

You’ll never know whether it is or is not your thing unless you try it.

How are you doing?

I’m hanging in there. Although I haven’t been a daily drinker since my 20s. My thing when I had been drinking lately is one night binges (on a rare occasion two day). Thanks for checking on me 🫶🏼
