New in sober town

Hi there , I consider this my first time really trying to get sober, I’ve never tried to get help before. I’m a very successful “closet” drinker most people don’t know how much I drink because I can handle my liquor and I don’t go out drinking ever. I buy bottles and carry it around with me. For the last few years I don’t think I’ve been sober for more than a couple hours. I don’t like the person I’ve become, I lie to everyone and I’ve closed myself off from the outside world. I’m scared where my habits will take me and who I will hurt along the way. I hope this is the first step to turning my life around.

You are in the right place. I have found that actively working my program, (AA for me but there are many other options) reading an participating here have helped me get and stay sober. :facepunch:t3::peace_symbol:

I never really tried with support before either. Until now. This app has been my main vehicle for support. I’m active here. I know I’m powerless over alcohol. And I got a killer gratitude game working for me.

I too have never been to a support group.
Doing this on my own with the exception of support from my family and my SO.
My SO family has no idea I have a problem with drinking so I understand when you say you are a closeted drinker. I was able to manage looking normal to them. Now I just get to really be me without the lies. That right there will make you feel amazing besides the fact that you will start to love mornings. I’m pretty new to sobriety so feel free to message me whenever. This app is a great place to come for support. It’s done wonders for so many here.

Be brutally honest with yourself. Take it one day at a time. Do not go down the self pity/shame path. The past cannot be changed. Accept and own it. You can’t have a better tomorrow if you don’t take care of today.

Welcome to the group. As others have said, you have come to the right place. I’m fairly new myself and have never sought out help before. I find other peoples stories inspiring and encouraging. They remind me when things are tough that there is another way to live and be happy. You’ve taken a first brave step to changing your life. Congratulations:)

I’m right there with you. So far my sober time is me sleeping off the alcohol and that’s it. I really wish you the absolute best of luck and I just hope you know your not alone in any of this. :heart:
