Day 7 today and I feel so irritable and tired and want a f*#king drink:( lost track of how many times I’ve tried to quit. Longest streak was 38 days. Need help getting past the urge. Doesn’t help that my husband is currently relaxing with a beer in hand
A full week without alchool is a huge result! Be proud of yourself and try to share with your husband what you’re trying to do, I’m sure he’ll be supportive of you ![]()
Congratulations on your 7 days. One day after the other. Come here whenever you need to, read around. You’ll find lots of support here. Or try a meeting online or f2f.
That is AWESOME Congrats on a week sober! That is amazing, and it does make it difficult when others around you do it.. which sucks, but you’ve got this! We are here, and I am sure that if you do share it with your Husband he will be able to accomodate.. or at least try to.
Seven days is a big deal. Now do what you need to do to get to day 8. We do this one chunk of hours at a time, not forever.
@Ladytron Congrats for making it a week.
welcome to our community, too.
when i got clean for the last time i came home to people still using, too. i stayed clean by keeping myself busy and knowing that if i couldn’t pass UAs for probabtion i’d lose my freedom back then.
if you drink now you’ll lose your freedom too, and you’ll be back in your drinking cycle. it might be a little tough right now, but you can do it.
why not try an AA meeting?
Welcome back. One week is awesome, and it sounds like you are really tired of the merry go round of drinking and feeling like shit.
I found reading books on sobriety always helped me in early sobriety. Helped me feel less alone in my struggles, and gave me some strength to stay sober. here are some I liked;
- Quit like a woman
- Blackout
- We are the luckiest
- The easy way to control alcohol
I also found it really helpful to have something physical to replace drinking urges. On the weekends when I felt a really strong urge to pick up a drink, I would drive to the pools and jump in the cold water. Spend a few hours floating and letting the craving pass by. I also jumped on my bike or went to the gym. Yoga is a really good option, slow classes like yin yoga help us regulate our nervous system and having a space to look after ourselves that we can go to in the evenings or mornings when we would normally relax with alcohol is a really nice option too.
Remember all the reasons you want to quit, all the things alcohol takes from you. And let that be your guiding light to choosing to stay sober. Life will get better and better if you put yourself and your sobriety first, I promise ![]()
Maybe try a meeting might help wish you well
@Ladytron how are you going today? ![]()
Doing okay - day 10 so far. Trying to take it one day at a time. Some days are easy, then there’s some days after I get home from work where it’s the hardest. Thanks for checking in😀
Yes! Ten days is excellent! Proud of you ![]()
Try and make a plan for when it feels hard, those times when the urges are really strong. Maybe find something else you can do to relax in the evening like craft, or walking, or yoga or swimming
That has been a really important part of helping me keep sober over the years. I’ve relapsed a lot, but kept trying just like you. You got this.
Congrats for pushing through!! ![]()
