Not giving up the fight

I manage to get 4-5 days sober, but then end up having a glass or two of wine :wine_glass:, or some beer, but I haven’t gotten drunk for a while now. I think it’s just about breaking the patterns and habits :pensive:. I know I can do it as I managed to get 7 years sober a couple years ago. I’m going to shake up my routine to try and fill the moments I end up having those drinks. Have a nice day!:grinning:

Great to see you back here Alice!

You are right - changing up the routines and patterns and then filling up the drinking times with other healthier activities is great way to work on your sobriety. I would also fill your surroundings with support. Are you able to attend in person or on line meetings?
This community is active 247 - connect with us when the urges get strong - we have all gone through or are goign through the same struggles.

Wishing you loads of love on your sober journey!

Thanks guys… those are some great ideas!:slightly_smiling_face:. The anniversary of my father’s death is coming up so I will have to be strong and ready in his honor.:muscle::sunny:

What a lovely way to honor your dad. We will be right here with you my friend. I do hope you have a kick ass day today! :muscle: :hear_no_evil:

Thanks all. I had a beer today and it tasted awful. I think the universe is trying to tell me something. (Finally!!!). Have a great day everyone :revolving_hearts:

What are you doing on a daily basis to seek outside support for your sobriety?

Well, I have an addiction worker and a psychosocial therapist and we have developed an intervention plan. So far, the cravings aren’t bad so that is good. I am starting 2 research projects this week with the local university here so that should keep me motivated.

Great support lined up my friend. Grateful that the cravings aren’t bad.

Wishing you luck with your research projects! :crossed_fingers:

Do you know what made you want to pick up that beer? I am glad that it tasted bad but the next time it could taste great and that is the slippery slope we try to avoid. I know when smoking. I would be doing great and then have that one drag or full cig - hate the taste and so my mind would say — see you don’t even like this why not have a few from time to time (wtf - why did i listen to that reasoning - why would i do something again if i didn’t like it?) – its our addict mind at play. just throwing that out here for a cautionary tale.

Happy Sunday Alice! have a wonderful day

I don’t know what made me drink that beer… as you said, it was a risky thing to do knowing where it could have lead me and thank God it tasted crappy. I am protecting myself for the beginning of this abstinence - I gave all my money and cards to my best friend and she is hard core so I hope and pray that this lasts. I feel so much better sober!:sunglasses::sunny::100:

i love this Alice! So happy to hear about your attitude with sobriety and how you are surrounding yourself with support. We got your back here too… keep strong and keep enjoying that sober feeling

Thank you! It is beautiful outside so I’m going for a nice walk and not a patio with some drinks
