Not sure.....,

Is drinking lemon lime n bitters not ok for alcoholics? I know it sounds like a strange, silly question but I just don’t know. :s
I had a sip of an alcoholic drink today which was a let down but I didn’t everything in my power not to have any more and I jumped on this app and did stuff to distract me. Feels shit to say. But felt like I needed to get it out.

Yes. 44.7% alcohol or 89.4 proof. If you’re ingesting it, you’re drinking booze.

Time to get a grip @Sobergal91 - I googled ‘are bitters alcoholic’ and copied this result, all within one minute:

Angostura bitters are extremely concentrated and are an acquired taste; though 44.7% alcohol by volume, bitters are not normally ingested undiluted, but instead are used in small amounts as flavouring

We all hope there’s some form of ‘get out clause’ - I’m afraid there isn’t!
You just need faith in yourself and to be prepared for a couple of weeks you’d really rather not have. Then you can see through the fog.
It is worth it!

So if your trying to quit alcohol you shouldn’t drink it?? I thought it was just for flavour. My mum ordered me one today with dinner cheering to me that I’ve been doing so well lol.

Sounds like your Mum’s got a new theory.
I’ll just stick to boring old not drinking until the medical authorities approve drinking for sobriety!

A Mother’s love can be misguided as in this instance. Big hugs to Mum always.

I am giving Mum the benefit of the doubt that she didn’t realize that bitters have alcohol. This is a good reminder or learning for all of us that bitters are alcohol. Don’t drive yourself nuts over it, but do let your Mom know she effed up.

Yeh bless her. Well I drank it, I thought it was ok. She knew it had alcohol but like me she thought it was just for the flavour. I told her last night and she said kids drink it but lol. Maybe there’s one without alcohol. I’m favourite sober drink is coke. But that’s going to kill my insides. Thanks for all your msgs. It’s something that I should just know, but for reason I thought it was ok.

I was thinking about me being all holier than thou about bitters yesterday - after I remembered I’d been totally unaware about mouthwash:

For example, original formula Listerine is about 54 proof with 26.9% alcohol, and many of the mint flavored mouthwashes are almost 22% alcohol. The alcohol content of Scope weighs in at 18.9%, and Cepacol at 14%.

The stuff’s evetywhere!

Lol see we shouldn’t be thinking about this but we are. My question to you is it ok to have one or two during the week special occasion or don’t even think about it?

It’s not like you drink mouth wash though haha

I couldn’t have one or two, because I couldn’t trust myself to leave it at a couple (1 wouldn’t be worth having, 2 relatively strong drinks get me just at the right level - but I’d then want to stay at that level and fail by getting drunk).
There’s lots of different opinions on the forum, and mine’s only one of them, but if you can honestly have one or two drinks a week and on a special occasion, and those are still your limits next year, the year after, 5 years down the line, I don’t think anyone’d call that problem drinking. However, if you can’t go for let’s just say a week without wanting or craving for a drink, I’d say you’ve got a problem.
When it was bad for me I couldn’t get through a day.

I think you may be suprised there.
And for the record, I haven’t!

One or two drinks I mean lemon lime n bitters. I def can’t have one drink if it was wine or anything else I’d have the whole bottle. So yeh. But thanks for your feedback. I appreciate it!
