Hello there. AA will help with those negative emotions.
I will definitely remember what you said about looking for similarities instead of differences! I think I was so convinced that those older people with so many years of sobriety couldnāt possibly relate to me that I just never went back to that particular meeting.
Believe it or not, newcomers are beyond helpful to those with long term sobriety. The reason we are all there is to stay sober one day at a time. We need to remember the early days and help support newcomers. I hope you find a group you can connect with soon.
The old timers who have been sober a good length of time have a wealth of experience and are well worth listening to and if you get the chance pick their brains for how they managed to stay off the booze for so long do it, you donāt have to do what they did, but, its all information in your sobriety tool box.
AA and NA are both great. In my experience, the people who have the most clean/sober time are those who attend meetings regularly, have a sponsor, and work the 12 steps. Meetings are great, but I really needed to dig deep into the step work to really understand myself and quite literally āget out of my own wayā. I ended up also gaining an amazing fellowship/ community of non drinkers and I can text or call my sponsor anytime Iām struggling- day or night. I was a chronic relapser for a really long time- it sounds like we have similar patterns!
You can do this!! I hope this helps
Amen. When I hit steps 4-9 it was a ton of work and so eye opening. I love my program friends. Meetings are a start but with the steps itās so enriching, your shares become profound and helpful to others. Good advice
The panic I sense in your post reminds me of me.
I made a decision to give AA an honest try. I got a sponsor. I called them every day. (Even ((especially))when I relapsed) When they say come more, I went more. When they said take a night off I took a night off. I followed every piece of direction from people who had what I wanted.
Today I havenāt had to feel that way in over 2 years.
OMG exactly. Thats what i feel too. In a few days i think the same. āThat wasnt so bad, i think ill have a drinkā then 4 or 5 drinks later cant remember a thing.
