I’m 3 months sober as of yesterday! Such a big accomplishment!
I’m having some odd feelings lately. I’m assuming it’s coming from finally going through life sober . But I’m experiencing a feeling of not being me? I know my life is my life , I know I’m me , but I also don’t feel like this is my life and I’m not me? I’m not sure how to describe it. I’m happy with my life and how far I’ve come , but I feel disconnected from everything around me. Such an odd feeling to have.
Has anyone else experienced that?
If you have , are there any tips or ideas that helped you reconnect.
Thank you!
I can totally relate to this. It’s like I need to work out a new identity. I have to say goodbye to the old me and move into a new person. It is really strange and quite challenging. I quite liked the old me; I feel the new me is a bit boring
but I also know that old me wasn’t good for me. So I have to learn to love new me.
Hello Latesha, and congratulations on your 90 days, that’s a significant milestone! In early days, I clung tightly to my AA community, because I felt I did not belong anywhere else. I did have the clear feeling that my real life was happening when I was in an AA meeting and around those people, and that my life at work and at home was somehow “fake”, an external show that I participated in but could not identify as my own.
I found out that drinking has so many learned reactions attached to it, and that re-learning how to be in the world without drinking took time and patience.
I hope you can find a place you feel you belong, and gradually that feeling will grow and grow until you are at ease inside your skin in the world.
Blessings
on your house today.
In early sobriety its a new way of life and its hard sometimes to adjust to your new sober surroundings
i went to meetings met new like minded people who understood me i wish you well regards from Scotland
First of all, big congratulations on reaching three whole months of freedom! I’m new here, and your achievement is a huge inspiration to me!
Your experience is fascinating. My ally explained to me how addiction creates new brain connections & chemistry… so, your addicted self IS a very different self from who you are starting to become.
I guess you just did a factory reset over this 90 days. Your device (your brain) seems to be waiting on you to begin the ‘set up’ for your new self…
Honestly, it sounds like an awesome opportunity. You can start to explore a whole new way of interacting with life!
One thing I’ve read consistently so far in this community - you will like the new version, over time, a whole lot better than the old one.
Keep it moving; you’re clearly on the right track.
Congrats on the 3 months. It’s pretty normal to feel that way early on. It takes a long time and some dedicated work to clear your mind up. It takes a while to even fully accept that the drinking you was never the real you to begin with I think. Talking to a lot of like minded people is really helpful. Just gotta keep putting in the effort each day and things will get easier and being sober will start to become a way of life. You’ll be sure of who you are too because you don’t have the mind alteration of the substance. It’s a good feeling honestly
Sounds like growth to me! It sounds like your brain is re-wiring so it’s a good sign.
