Old Recovery projects from treatment

I’ve been taking abit of time to really reflect on my journey. When I moved 1327 km away from where I grew up (almost 7 years ago), I took everything with me. I needed a fresh start. Unfortunately, geographical cures often don’t work. BUT, I took my recovery stuff with me bcuz I knew I needed it. I have no supports out here (besides meetings). That’s how I found you all  by looking for whatever addiction app could help me. And I do online meetings occasionally also. Anyway, I came across this scrapbook this morning. I made this many years ago in treatment. Its the before and after, the ABCs of recovery for me. I think I might add to it  I also have a Comfort box. A box that I decorated on the outside and then I put in all the things that gives me comfort. For example, I put in cinnamon gum, music, lavender essential oil, battery operated mini lights from the dollar store, things like that. I haven’t used it in years but I figure it could help (the gum obviously has to be replaced lol I’m sure it’s old by now :face_vomiting:). Anyway, I wanted to share some things with u all as u all are a HUGE part of my journey:

The recovery side has such a better vibe. Keep that in mind :grinning: great work!

Thank you! I actually like looking at old treatment things. It helps to see what mindset I was in back in the day. I’ve seen improvement in my life so that’s good  and some of those old techniques I feel could possibly help me out now! How are YOU doing?

Yeah that’s definitely a good mindset to have. I am doing pretty good. Just relaxing and trying to find something to do that is going to keep me preoccupied and busy. I was thinking Netflix, crafts or reading so I just need to get motivated enough to pick one and do it. I am struggling a little bit with some minor urges which I don’t usually ever get but I know they will pass eventually, I just don’t need to entertain them. Thanks for asking, how are you?

Thank you! It was fun. We had lots of magazines to look thru for words in treatment  but realistically u could probably write them out too!

You got great scrapbooking skills, mine would look terrible.

Geographic change doesn’t work, I learned that all I did was find new people to get wasted with, that’s an old theory That has proven failed, the addict or alcoholic will find a way to use or drink if they want to, they will also find the way to get sober if they want to, it’s never based on the location, it’s based on the person.

Old Gum funny story, I’m a sports card collector seller well I was, but I was trying to complete and old set, from the 80s and I bought a sealed box, gum was 30 some years old, and me being me on a bet tried to chew it, 0 out of 5 stars do not recommend

Omg thats so funny  I don’t even know how long gum lasts for lol but I guess 30 years is the max haha. And yes u are absolutely right. I left my home province for a “fresh start” and I did end up just finding people to use with. It is about working on ourselves and not finding outside sources to make us happy or to fix us. Alot of good did come from moving but when it came to my addiction, I was still stuck with myself and I am the problem. Hope u have a great day! :slightly_smiling_face:
