It’s been a struggle but I have made it to Day 4. I’m soooo nervous I don’t know why. My body feels like I’m having tremors or something. I believe it’s the cigarettes. I decided to go cold turkey on all 3 . Am I having withdrawals? I haven’t ever felt like this. Maybe I’m anxious cause I know what’s coming up in a few days. How is everyone doing?
Could very well be the cigarettes. Nicotine is a beast. Withdrawals can be brutal. Big congrats on making it to day 4 friend. I don’t know anything about you, the other substances you’re detoxing from, the amount you used to take, the time you did so. I just hope you know what you’re doing. Some stuff can be dangerous to go cold turkey with, alcohol comes to mind first. Not nicotine, that’s ‘just’ some really tough withdrawals to get through the first week or so. You’re doing it though! Wishing you all success, and please take care. Hugs.
I waited till i was ayear sober then i stopped cigs ,then they smoked at meetings so would have been hard stopping the two wish you well
Congrats on day 4. It wont always be this bad! You have to get thru that first week and the cravings will hopefully subside if you are working a recovery i.e. learning about addiction, talk therapy, support groups, being active here and building up your sober toolbox to deal wuth life and emotions sober.
You can do this! Hold on!
Thank you so much. If I can make it to a week I believe I’ll be okay. Alcohol, cigarettes, and my D.O.C is cocaine. I’ve tried other ways to quit only my doc but one of the others always lead me back to using. So I figured, let me kick them out the way they entered my life, TOGETHER! I’m not an alcoholic cause I could days without drinking alcohol. Cigarettes have been apart of my life for a very long time and I’ve tried to quit once before but couldn’t. I just know I cannot keep doing this and I want off this rollercoaster ride to hell or wherever. I appreciate your kind words. Thank you for believing in me. It is kind of hard though but I’m built for it.
Yeah I know. But when I go days without smoking, they smell horrendous. So I’m hoping the smell of them help keep me away. Thank for all the input. I need it. Trust me. lol
Thank you sooo much. Trust and believe me I’m holding. I haven’t been out the bed in 4 days. lol I went outside for a walk to the store yesterday and that made my anxiety flare so bad! I had a friend with me though. So I was very thankful for that. I’ve turned down any and all nicotine and alcohol. If anyone tries to give me drugs I’ll probably call the cops lol j/p. Usually I don’t say no and that has been my downfall as well. But not this time, I’m just so done man..
Percentage wise quitting all substances at once has the best chance of succeeding long term as compared to trying it one by one, including nicotine. Keep going friend, it will get better.
I honestly believe this and was told this would be the last option if any of the others don’t work during my 1st stay in residential. I said to myself nothing else has worked. Time to go cold turkey! I’m doing it too friend.
At least I’m trying. One Day At A Time! Thank you..
Heck yeah protect your sobriety. You are doing this!
Definitely doing it. Weekends, noon time, and evenings have my anxiety sky high and my heart beat on a thousand. Long as I stay still and inside I’ll be alright.
As you get through the physical withdrawals, you will be ready to enter into the next phase of recovery. I’m not going to beat the drum for using one word or another to describe oneself. What you are saying sounds a whale of a lot like justification or denial about having a problem. The problem is addiction, and one drug or another in particular is not the root of it.
The challenge with quitting substances is finding a way to live at peace with yourself and the world without artificially altering your state of mind. There are plenty of ways to do that altering, and on the other hand, there are plenty of ways to get to a contented sobriety.
Abstinence is necessary and not sufficient for a long term sobriety. What are you willing to do to achieve the personality change sufficient to overcome addiction?
