How to live sober as a drug addict
Im just a guy
Whos been through a lot and started learning young
I remember when i was a young child i lied a lot
One day i turned a corner by my moms room down at the end of the staircase and said to myself i will never lie again.
Ive absolutely hated and couldnt lie well sence.
Far ahead
Life continued
I was a smoker. And i smoked absolutely everything that i will not say here but few know all. And theres a lot
I went to AA and learned how to battle addiction and at this point in time everything they said as long time sober drug addicts were absolutely true
Recently at work today
I had a strong craving but not for drugs or alcohol. No for a club or a bar either.
What i ended up “thinking” it was was being around the bad exciting drugg addict people in the dark in the midle of town. Any town.
What in the world fked up thought is that.
Then recently tonight i found out the real thing i crave. Helping other drug addicts. Not at night. Not bad people. I craved the rooms of AA and NA and eventually as the night went on, the program came to thought
You see
As a child i learned how to be good by the good people raising me. This was key for my intelligence because i knew good from bad. Because i knew, and grew around good, thats all i ever wanted
Further ahead
I learned how to beat addiction with AA. I never even came close to completeing the program of AA and i went for years and still study but because i havnt physically completed the program with a in person sponcer of AA ( another addict) i never beat that last drug, acting like a drug addict, sometimes in a bunch of ways and other times in just 1 way. I know how to be sober. But to this day i dont know how to live sober
My favorite quotes are
One day at a time
And
Take what you need, leave the rest
P.s.
Nowhere in the steps ( the program ) does it say i cant be around it. I just cant do it. And this is extremely important. The steps do however build a good conscience with others who will bend over backwards for you, including simply helping and volunteering free time to pass out bread at a local foodbank which me and another did years and years ago. He was a good guy with a bunch of good sobriety time and completed the program but wouldnt sponcer me unles i went to more meetings. He had a question on his mind at a lot of those meetings but i never truly understood until right now really. He never truly asked it but i truly think he absolutely knew what it was. And if i can answer his question, without saying anything else about him or it, i would say, go to AA and no matter what just keep going to AA and practice the steps youd like (completion means oys a opened book.) and help other alcoholics in the rooms in the meantime.
Just like the long term sober people said (the old timmers)
Good luck
Hope this helps someone
Remember
One day at a time
Take your what you need and leave the rest
If you have any questions about the program just look up the 12 steps of AA
