I haven’t made a post myself in a while, but I was jusy struck with some inspiration to do so. I’ve spent the last almost 2 years building my sobriety, improving my mental health and behaviors, and actively getting involved in my church and another ministry. I’ve had a lot of success and a lot of failure. When I found out the date I have to be out of the housing I’m in for my IOP I was excited in a way because I thought I might finally be able to afford my own place and to my dismay found out that the prices were still out of reach. It was hard to accept and I had to just start looking into rooms to rent. It has been mentally very rough honestly. After seeing some posts here though and reflecting I just got a really big sense of gratitude that despite the issues I face in life now alcohol and substances are not one of them. Sobriety has become a way of life for me and when I’m anxious or depressed my first thought is not a drink anymore. I think about who I can talk to or what therapy skills I can use or I pray. I still have problems in life, but man am I glad that that alcohol isn’t one of them. Continuing to be involved in alcoholics anonymous has become a way of life too and I’m thankful for that. As I like to put it, if you pick up a drink you now have two problems: your problems and alcohol
Love ur post!! Im sorry to hear about the housing situation tho. But Im glad u were able to look at the bigger picture and bring gratitude into ur day ![]()
I can sometimes get mentally stuck in things that are not going well in my life. But all the troubles I have today, I was literally wishing for while in the problem. In the grand scheme of things, its not the end of the world
Still sucks tho but we have the choice today, on how we let these things effect us.
Thank u for the great reminder and inspirational post ![]()
Thank you and glad you got something from it. Nothing I can do but keep looking and I know I’ll have somewhere to live even if it isn’t what I wanted. Maybe that will be the next step after this one. At least now I found purpose and I don’t have to spend every waking hour chasing the drink and running from everything. Nothing ever brought me lower than alcohol so my issues now may but a little frustrating, but I don’t have the problem of alcohol which was on a blisteringly fast pace to killing me so I’m doing alright. Pretty amazing how gratitude comes more naturally after you’ve survived addiction
Hi Mike, your post is a great time stamped documentation of your feeling right now. If you continue on with sobriety and self care, I bet you will look back and realize your higher power was, and is there to guide you through recovery. A.A. Has had my back through the worst of times. Acceptance and gratitude will get you through this. Keep coming ![]()

Yeah absolutely. It’s those sudden realizations and feelings that are really impactful to me. Divine timing is something I see a lot in my life now. I can recognize it. It’s a wonderful thing
What a beautiful share. Grateful that you felt the inspiration to write.
I am sorry for your housing situation. I am grateful for your outlook. You will have a place to live and hopefully in the near future you will be in the space that you want. Grateful for what sobriety allows to happen in our lives and how we learn to cope with the bumps along the way. What a blessing it is that you can be faced with these bumps and have no desire to drink - a true testament on living well in recovery.
Thanks again for sharing - wishing you well with your housing. ![]()
Thank you. Absolutely. I know something will work out for now at least and as for the next step we’ll see what happens. It still amazes me that I don’t immediately think doom and gloom about everything anymore. Gifts of sobriety and mental health recovery
