One whole year down

Well guys an entire year has gone by since I took my last drink. So much has changed for me and I really don’t know where the time went. It doesn’t seem like that long but at the same time I feel so far away from the person I used to be while drinking and I’m so grateful for that. Life is still hard but I feel so much more prepared for it now. Thankful for the people who have stuck by me and and also for the people who didn’t. I bought myself a pretty ring to celebrate :tada: excited to see where I’ll be at year 2. :orange_heart:

Congratulations!! This is awesome :fire:

2 questions for you:

  1. What was the biggest challenge you faced in achieving your year?

And,

  1. What was surprisingly “easy” as you achieved your year?

Just curious to your thoughts as I to am working towards that 1 year milestone. It seems the 1st year is the most challenging because it’s the year of “firsts” for everything.

Again, a great accomplishment!!! 🫵🏼🙏🏼

The biggest challenge I faced was putting myself and my sobriety first no matter what. I had to choose my health over relationships that meant a great deal to me. But now I see that those relationships weren’t worth keeping anyway.

The thing that turned out to be a lot easier than I thought was actually telling people I didn’t drink anymore. Most people’s response was actually that they wished they didn’t drink as much as they do or that they were really proud of me. I’ve had people come to me that I barely know and ask me for help and advice and it’s been so rewarding and fulfilling to do what I can for them and share my experience. It’s made it all feel so purposeful and taken the shame away that I felt in addiction.
Awesome questions!! Thank you. And I wish you all the best on your way to the one year mark. You’ve got this!!
