Friend SoberWalker! I saw you post about hiking in another thread this evening and I related to you. I live in Chicago and hiking isn’t the most beautiful here but there is lots of walks to walk in the city.
When I first stopped drinking I just walked. I would be gone for an hour or two or three. Like I said in one of my replies it actually inspired me to take up backpacking and hiking as a hobby again. I grew up hiking the mountains on the west coast of USA and I loved it.
Drink took that away from me and I’m very happy to have rekindled the passion. My daughter and I are actually preparing to hike part of the Grand Canyon next spring!
The Grand Canyon is soooo beautifull! I have visit it 24 years ago. I was in my drinking period that time so carried more weight and had a misserable condition. So my boyfriend went for a early walk in the Grand Canyon (The Angel walk if I remeber correct?) and I stayed in bed.
Oh I wish if I could turn back time!! I would deffinitely go with him!
Maybe another holiday
Hey Duckie! Thanks so much for posting! Wow, congrats on 2+ years. I too live in the Midwest. I too walk everyday outside with a walking buddy weather permitting. I do have a local AA group that I joined and the greatest benefit has been getting sober friends that I can do things with. Connection is key for me, I’m quite social. We are having great weather here in Kansas City, so I’m taking advantage of it. So glad you posted!
Hi Duckie. You did the right thing by reaching out here. I also have no friends and was thinking about lurking around AA to find some. Hope you made it through the day without alcohol and feel better today.
I just wanted to check in with all of you who helped me through that night! Thank you so much for everything and it’s been over a week now and I haven’t touched the drink or thought about it.
I have an AA meeting tonight and hopefully won’t feel super awkward about it and can make some new friends! I’m always open to learning new things and hopefully this will be a positive environment for me to learn and grow myself in this new stage of my life.
Thank you all so so so very much for the love and support through that night. I really appreciated it more than any of you could know. Thank you.
