I’m glad they told me how conophytum form a protective skin in the summer and will more or less look kinda dead.
This one is starting to look like ET when Elliot found him on the river bed, but she’s just fine.
Here’s my Calathea Triostar. It’s dark green on the front of the leaves, and bright pink on the backs. What’s so cool, is it moves it’s leaves up and down a lot!
EDIT: I updated the pics with a white background to prevent the pink hue caused by the plant lights.
The 1st big guy is called a Philodendron Hope plant, I’ve never heard of it, but I do like philodendron’s because they’re easy. (Not good if you have any pets that eat plants).
2nd is my Monstera!! It’s a little guy with BIG leaves. They had bigger ones, but this one looked healthier.
Gonna hit 90ºf today (91ºf, to be exact) for the first time of 2024 - which means greenhouse will almost certainly hit the 110ºf maximum I try to stay below.
I didn’t have to fire up the cooler til mid-May last year, and it looks like after today the temps dial back a little - so hopefully have some time before I need to get the cooler running again and effectively double my electric bill 'til October
That said, with temps being so high the next 3 or 4 days and with (finally) drying out after a wet Jan/Feb/Mar, it was a good day to give everyone a deep watering. I fuckin’ love watering day. Playing chemist with my (natural) pesticides and fertilizers, lugging the water out to the greenhouse…whole thing takes 30, 45 mins.
Found a big, fat black widow spider in my greenhouse too. I love animals but I hate these guys - venom not strong enough to kill me, but they pose a serious threat to my dogs if either one was to get bit. She had a brief rendezvous with my blowtorch. No more spider.
This one is called a Philodendron ‘prince of orange’ I have a new orange baby leaf that has opened, and I think another one coming in too. They start out orange, then turn greenish orange as they get older.
Aaaah loves Monstera’s too!
He wil be big soon enough!
Mine has just got a shiny new leaf. The older they get how bigger the leafs and the more holes they got
My back is turning a corner, so I am (carefully) increasing activity.
This agave (I forget which kind it is) was in too small of a pot to begin with, in absolute shit substrate. It was early 2022, I was still learning. I’ve been itching to get it into a big pot, one for when I eventually move it outside.
Now.
Most agave hurt/will fuck you up. But this one…this one is some kind of advanced bastard. Beautiful but so fuckin mean. The tips are absurdly sharp and I’m convinced you could lose a fingertip to the serrated spines on the edges.
Thanks!
Usually I can’t get the roots so clean but the old substrate really was crap. I have no idea what I was using at the time, lol. The roots could barely grip it, fell right off no problem.
I think if she did so well under suboptimal conditions, I can’t wait to see what she does with great substrate and 4x the room!
