So, I’ve found out today that “phantom hangovers” are a thing?! Six days sober and I feel absolutely horrific; banging headache, nausea and vomiting, stomach cramps, shakes, my anxiety has shot up to 1000 - the lot!
Does anyone have experience with this? If so, please tell me it’ll resolve itself eventually??
I’m doing all the right things, and it’s so frustrating to feel that I may has well be drinking (obviously I won’t, and it wouldn’t, but aargh!)
I get them to a certain extent but not as bad as yours.
Obviously not medical advice but I like to think it’s the body’s way of responding to clearing out toxins etc.
Does it last a long time? Mine clear up after about 30 mins of getting out of bed.
I got them in the first few months from time to time. Not that bad though more mild hangover symptoms. Headache, nausea, tired. It should pass soon. Talk to your doctor about it though. I did notice though that if I had too much sugar, like ice cream or something like that, it caused the same hangover type symptoms in the morning. So just be aware replacing one with the other
I agree with this! I always find that after rubbish food or a take away i get a food hangover! May have just been masked if you drank alcohol alongside rubbish food before x
Early on I had some days in the first month and even occasionally where I woke up feeling woozy . I think it’s normal especially in the first week depending on how much you were consuming. The best thing in my opinion is to hydrate. My wife taught me a trick with Redmonds salt. Get a big water cup or jug and fill it up with ice water and put a 1/4 teaspoon of that salt in it. The water will taste a tad salty obviously but it really helps hydrate you quicker and I’ve used it for even regular headaches instead of taking a pain reliever. I don’t like using pain reliever because it’s bad for the liver unless it’s an absolutely unbearable headache. Hope you feel better soon!
That sounds like withdrawal. So, yep, saw that movie, the ending sucks. The first few months of sobriety are unpleasant at best, and painful AF at the worst. That’s our penance. However, it never gets easier the more we do it. It gets worse. Having gone through many bouts of crippling withdrawal I can assure you that you only want to experience this once.
I’m almost 3 days sober and I’ve been waking up with a headache and a bit of dizziness. I have to keep taking painkillers throughout the day to ease the headache. I assume its just withdrawal
It is called PAWS Post Acute Withdrawal Syndrome. Do some research about it. Its mostly associated with opioid Withdrawal but it does exist all substances. Something to check out. Just keep pushing and remember when you feel this way it will pass. “THIS TOO SHALL PASS” how ya feel better!
Good. It’ll go away. I had headaches on and off for the first two months or so. It was really starting to get annoying. I started to feel a lot better around the 2 1/2 month mark
Yes. Exactly. It’s only temporary and depending on your drunk of choice, if it’s fermented beer that’s more replacement fluid you’re going to need. If it’s booze make sure you eat meats to replace lost proteins
I used to drink the heavy duty clear booze
I had to eat right and replace an awful amount lost nutrients
I have 22 years sober now
Every once in a while i get a hangover because i drunk allot of soda on the weekend
Same effect. But still sober
I removed all carbonation from my diet
