Hi, I live in the PNW and it rains a lot here. That means there’s a lot of streams, rivers and lakes around, which also means there are a lot of Cottonwood trees.

This time of year, the cottonwood releases it’s tiny seeds which attached to little tufts of a cotton like material, hence the name. This cotton floats through the air and coalesces pretty much everywhere (amd gets in your nose, really annoying). It’s my least favorite time of year.

My wife, not being from here, has never seen this before and thought it was magical, cotton floating through the air as if it was snowing… until she discovered she is allergic!

Anyhow, it’s cottonwood time and will last for the next 2 to 3 weeks.

Views from my backyard.

I have a farm behind my house and this is (one of) my favorite times of the year out where we live. When the cows and new baby calf’s get to roam out back.

Cottonwoods mark water sources, their deep roots seek out underground water supplies. Because they grow so tall and are a conduit to water, they are excellent candidates for lightning strikes! We have them here in New England, and it is “second snow” season here as well!

I love it. Years ago lived by one. Neighbors house was totally white and wanted it cut down. Mother Nature is awesome. I am sorry for the allergy folk out there.

I thought these were weeds when I first moved in and I kept mowing them down. Then I got a little behind on the lawn and all of a sudden the weed started blooming

The more time I spend in Astoria the more I love it. I was able to get off the boat and do some exploring yesterday.

This monkey puzzle tree is the biggest i have ever seen. They are slow growers and non native. This must be 200 years old minimum.

And these massive rhoadies are everywhere!

Astoria, Oregon? IDK if you’ve mentioned it but that’s where The Goonies was filmed/took place. Find any hidden pirate ships?

The famous jump scene in Free Willy was filmed at the Hammond Marina. Short circuit had quite a few scenes filmed up there also. There are a few others but would have to look them up.
