Physical symptoms

Hey Guys

Anyone willing to share any symptoms that are physical they had when detoxing? I’m scared as heck of the actual damage I’ve done to myself and I understand I need to really speak with my dr for real answers but does anyone mind sharing other physical symptoms they had? Some u don’t see to often?

The physical symptoms vary from person to person and the intensity also changes with each relapse. Chills, shakes, vomiting and headaches are normal fornthr first week. You know you body best. If you feel that you are dealing with something more or are afraid of what you are feeling then please do go see a doctor.

Fogginess, fatigue and insomnia came after first week for me.

Hang in there. Know that once you get through this phase - you won’t have to do it again :folded_hands:t4:

When I quit, I had the shakes, the sweats, achey joints (inflammation), headache, fatigue, decreased appetite, dizziness, nausea, anxiety, restlessness.

Moat went away after 10 days. What was left was insomnia, night sweats, brain fog. This lasted for maybe 2 months.

Are you experiencing something different?

It really depends on the drug. If it’s alcohol or benzos I highly suggest or recommend doing inpatient or medical detox because it’s very dangerous detoxing off of these things on your own especially if you’ve been doing it every day for an extended period. In my opinion alcohol and opiate withdrawal are probably the worst physically and there is a high relapse rate because of the uncomfortableness and symptoms but if you go somewhere to get help it will be a lot easier. Alcohol withdrawal and opiate withdrawal are pretty similar But of course they have their different characteristics. It’s possible to do opiate withdrawal at home but even that I suggest going to inpatient. Pretty much I would suggest going anywhere to detox in a medical setting so you’re surrounded by people that have knowledge and can help you be more comfortable during your detox process Plus usually these places will introduce you to different programs that will help you and they also can help you get into a outpatient service after you leave or sober living. These days there’s no excuse to do it on your own. And even if you don’t have money there’s a lot of programs out there. Either way you can put all of this behind you and move forward with your life and learn how to have healthy coping strategies and ways to deal with life without drugs or alcohol.

Ps: The worst thing you can do is look things up online the body has an amazing ability to repair itself after the damage you’ve caused. It just takes time for your mind and body to recover. If you’re currently still using or drinking your main goal is to safely detox off of that and then move forward from there. One thing at a time

Okay I’m right there with you!
I just hear a lot insomnia, shakes, but I also had itchiness and most people said crawling, mine wasn’t that, I do feel my joints hurt and kinda like the swelling. Brain fog for sure and also my eyes have been sooooo dry!

Thank you for the reply and absolutely I agree on inpatient treatment when possible.

I did refuse to google search because I will go down the rabbit hole and give myself an anxiety attack, which is why I decided to see if anyone was willing to talk about it here

I didn’t have any withdrawal symptoms, but everyone is different. The doctors were surprised. I had a lot of alcohol in my system when I went in. That was after two days of abstaining.

It might be a good idea to have blood work done. That’ll give you a pretty good idea where you are as far as physical damage. I go in every six months for blood work and an ultrasound. It takes less than 30 minutes and gives me piece of mind. I feel great.

Great job on your sobriety. Keep it going. It’s worth the fight.

Maggs…I’m not sure what part of the world you’re in, I’m in Minnesota. The fires in Canada are making my eyes dry and itchy as heck.

I guess it depends on the substance. Some substances don’t really have physical withdrawal for the most part such as coke, other substances like alcohol can have a dangerous withdrawal.

What was your substance of choice?

Oh that’s good you didn’t today is day 3 and a lot of them have subsided as of right now I would say I still feel a bit dehydrated last night I slept pretty restless the shakes would come and go but I’m hoping for a better morning, every time I’d wake up last night I would tell myself this is your body healing, it’s not forever, and that helped me lots

My choice of poison if unfortunately the easiest substance to obtain which is Alcohol.
I had a couple of the things most people are saying but I’m on day three and feeling so much better I can’t wait to see what day 4 brings
I’m seeing a little light at the end of this tunnle
