For me I found group work using books by Patrick Carnes to be helpful. In my sex addiction recovery clinic our group worked through Facing the Shadow, and Recovery Zone 1.
Patrick Carnes also has a book called “In the Shadows of the Net” which is about online sexual behaviour, and recovery from that.
Saw this in another page and figured i should post it here too:
“ Overcoming Lust
Jim Vander Spek
He writes from a very religious Christian perspective. So it may not appeal to everyone.
But it happens to be my favorite book. And I’ve read a lot of books. His book is the best. He took Every Man’s Battle and put it on steroids. 10 out of 10 stars from me.
I read your brain on porn, good for explaining the nuts and bolts of porn addiction, with lots of quotes/testimonials from porn addicts.
I will say I found it a bit of a difficult read, took me a long time to get through it. I think because the first two thirds of it felt like I was getting bogged down in the negativity of addiction, and the last third focused more on the recovery and how it’s not the end of your life, so was more positive.
Not specifically sex/porn addiction, but “Secure Love” by Julie Menanno has really helped me to better understand my emotions, feelings, and reactions within the context of a relationship (romantic & platonic).
Could be useful for some as negative emotions tend to lead to acting out.
A podcast I’ve dipped in and out of is…
“Sex, Love, and Addiction” by Dr Robert Weiss.
I remember listening to the first episode and just everything he said resonated with me so intensely.
