Lupe got naked today! :scream:  Going collarless after I gave her a much needed bath. She always gets frisky and playful afterward. No one would ever guess this girl was turning 10 in October the way she romps.

Ok last bit of Lupe for today with a story: This is the first year that Lupe has laid down in the grass like this consistently, ever. Something has really changed since Chucho died, it’s almost like she can really “dog” now that she doesn’t have to be alpha about things all the time. She was always focused on protecting him and also being dominant and tended to stay up higher on the deck. She has relaxed a whole lot and is even playing fetch and catching toys out of the air. It’s really fascinating to see her transformation and it just has come as such a surprise. And apparently she has mad skills catching things thrown at her or up in the air! Who knew?!

Another sober cat Dad. :smile_cat:
I got 4 of them :scream_cat: and 2 dogs :scream:
I guess that’s what happens when the kids move out.
Great looking cats you got there.
Maybe I’m too old to get the reference.
Welcome again.
The one on the right looks like my Maverick.

The world could definitely use more sober cat dads if ya ask me!

I thought two cats got hectic sometimes, four and two dogs gives me an anxiety attack just thinking about it!! Plenty of love in your house to go around though, that’s for sure.

There’s a lot of hawks around in my area, something I am constantly aware of and vigilant about when I have Chief outside playing. He’s right on the line of being big/heavy enough that a hawk probably couldn’t pick him up, but if the bird is big enough, I could certainly see one chancing it and going for him. Even if it couldn’t carry him off, the talons alone would likely do enough damage to possibly be fatal. My eyes are always on the treeline and the sky above.

Now, it’s no secret that crows (and similar birds such as ravens and magpies) are highly intelligent. About a year ago, I learned that crows are major enemies of hawks, to the point where if a crow learns of a hawk living in the area, he/she will go get their crow buddies and they’ll wait for the hawk to emerge. When it does, they’ll try to kill it.
I had never seen anything like this myself, but knowing the intelligence level of crows, reading enough stories relaying the accuracy of the crow/hawk dynamic, and seeing them as being helpful to Chief and I — I made a habit of saying “hello” to a crow whenever I see one. Kind of like my own version of that old superstition of greeting magpies. I had also noticed that if we were ever out and there were crows around…I would never see hawks about.

Well this morning a MASSIVE hawk came out of absolutely nowhere from the trees, flying low, right over us. Then literally right behind it, out flies a crow, and the crow is absolutely letting the hawk have it. Flying into it full speed, pecking at it, really messing it up good. Chased the hawk away a good distance, and circled back to watch over us some more. I’ve made a new friend.

So…say “hi” to a crow today, and maybe “thank you”, too!
