I love Sulu
Nice article about an important moment in LGBTQ+ history. And an interesting man. Different times.
I’m really glad you posted this. It really makes me sad to read and to think that a parent could disown their child because of whom they chose to love… I don’t even know that it’s actually a choice being gay, straight or bisexual. My husband and I are both straight but we have already had the discussion that if our daughter turned out to be gay (or trans or bi) we wouldn’t care. We love her no matter what and I’m sorry to hear that there are parents out there who are so uneducated that they do not understand. It’s really unfortunate that society had been brainwashed to thinking that there was something to hide if you were gay My best friend in school was gay and his father and brother pretty much disowned him when they found out. It took his mother’s passing to bring the family back together again and they have finally gotten past it. I can’t even imagine going through that. I can totally see how going through this could lead to an increase in destructive behavior through drugs and alcohol. This is sad but I am also happy that there are people brave enough to make a difference
Interesting stuff. I think. Just started listening to their podcasts. 4 Seasons to catch up on.
Oooo interesting! Thanks for sharing.
Happy Pride Month!
Sorry if this is redundant. I didn’t see any new pride posts on my feed.
Happy Pride Month All. Don’t forget to spread some love.
@No_more_C2H6O Moved your post here Scott. Trying to keep all the Pride together
Thank you!
Happy pride month y’all
Really like his positive view on a negative thing they were doing!
Happy Pride Month everyone! So grateful to be a part of this vibrant community. I feel like each year the corporate/capitalist efforts to monetize pride increase, so I always like to remind people of how pride started: as a riot. Most of us immediately recognize the Stonewall Riot, but Stonewall was one of many riots of that time against cop’s raids on queer bars & enforcement of the rule of 3 pieces of clothing having to “match” your perceived gender.
I am very grateful to live in the modern era where we don’t have to worry about the rule of 3 clothing pieces, but cannot forget where the LGBTQ+ community began. Do not ever forget that these riots were led by trans and non-binary people of color, and that intersectionality is a cornerstone of the community.
Happy Pride month everyone. Stay queer, stay scrappy, stay fierce
It’s interesting, realising a year has passed since this topic was created. And how much changed in my own life in that year…
I’m still not sure about where exactly I am on this spectrum but I guess sometimes a single piece of furniture tells a tale of growing acceptance…
We have our Pride flag up for the first time, along with our supportive neighbors across the street, and another to the right of our house. Taking over the block haha. Grateful to live in a time and place where we can just be ourselves.
Just listened to the one about J Edgar Hoover. Incredible stuff. BTW, thanks to the Dutch cyclist pro (whose name I’ve forgotten for now) who told he listened to podcasts while training, I now listen to podcasts on my bike.
