I quit earlier this year and lasted about 4 months. I’m back on the smoke free wagon now for about 2 months I believe even though I did have some hookah about a week ago but did not crave cigarettes afterwards because I felt so sick lol it is possible, but if not smoking is making you crave alcohol then don’t worry.. one step at a time.

I switched to vaping 3mg juice completely from a pack a day habit…so this is my fifth week without smoking and I figure I will probably transition to 1.5 then 0 mg juice but I really feel like it’s up to the individual-I did read a personal story in a magazine the fellowship I attend publishes where a guy who had something like 8 years sober was still drinking coffee and smoking cigs and his wife was pressuring him to quit so he decided to do so reluctantly however…a short time later he relapsed …he of course came back and got sober once and for all but I think the idea behind this story was if it’s something you want to do and feel you are ready to do so then do it…but don’t think that you’ve got to take on the world all at once—there’s a time and place…me however goes as follows-I believe recovery is about getting to a place where we help others and enjoy life-so I joined a martial arts gym where they train in grappling bjj-after my first night in class I was winded and mind you I am in decent shape I regularly excersize-the next morning I woke up with that dreaded feeling of if I smoke im never going to quit-it had to begin somewhere-this is after almost 20 years of smoking with a few intervals due to corrections-but it felt right you know-so really two awesome things happened for me all because I was willing to chase something I wanted in my life…I quit smoking and I began taking a martial arts class…this is my understanding of the freedom I have gained due to working a program and trying to live within the confines of what I understand God’s will for my life is…and in return I get to share this experience to people so that hey might hear that life in recovery is rewarding

I quit drinking 32 days ago and quit smoking 2 days later. It’s hard but for me. When I smoke I want to drink and when I drink I want to smoke! So, I quit both since they are triggers for each. It’s hard but I feel so much better! Stay busy and chew gum or give in to candy. I haven’t gained weight either.

Drinking is a big trigger for smoking and vice versa for a lot of ppl. For me i had to quit smoking first but there were some agonizing times. I used vape 6mg, 3mg, 1.5 then quit the vape. Here are some resources. For me the first 3 days were the hardest. Then i had challeneges around 3 weeks and at 3 months.

I quit smoking, chewing tobacco and alcohol together cold turkey.
It’s difficult, very difficult but nonetheless possible and very satisfying afterwards..

I salute you. Sober 25 days. Never smoked. Quitting chewing after 35 years tomorrow. Trying cold turkey. Any advice?

35 years? My God :face_with_hand_over_mouth::open_mouth: How are your teeth now?
You’re gonna do great. If there’s something I missed about chewing was that empty space inside cheek and gum. It used to itch for a few week to want to have tobacco there. I think it’s our cheek muscles that used to stretch when we used to hold tobacco there. And now after we have quit it has relaxed and is feeling weird haha

My cavity has improved alot. I had clicked photos on my day 0, I deleted after some months - they were just too bad. I couldn’t stand it. They’re way better now.

35 years is a huge time so nicotine cravings and withdrawals are gonna be there.. Good luck you can do it :index_pointing_up::raising_hands:

Actually, my teeth are great (blessed with good genetics in that area). Gums ok. I’ve used smokey mountain herbal snuff when trying to quit before. I found it helped with that “empty space”, and that after-eating cravings. No nicotine. Just kudzu root and a bit of cayenne pepper for the “burn”. Will have to quit that too, to let the gums heal.

My challenge is getting through the withdrawals. In the past, I’ve experienced abdominal muscle cramps, because I end up keeping them clinched when stressed. I guess there’s no way around it. Just have to go straight through.

This is the first time I’ll have any type of support system (this forum).

So here’s to it!

Thanks! Every bit helps, and I’m willing to try anything except “nicotine replacement”. Tried that. I’ve read that Cold Turkey has the greatest success rate, and I am mentally ready to quit.

I’ve also read to stay away from foods and drinks that trigger an urge to dip. No spicy foods, no black coffee. Bland foods and green tea for a few weeks, I think.

My teeth are all spoilt.. Thank God I didn’t lose any one of them.. My gums are all eaten up by tobacco (I have lost alot of gum).
And I think your plan is superb. Goodluck with the execution (y)

I’m on 12 days quit smoking, 4 not drinking. I do vape though, would like to drop that eventually, but it’s helping me keep calm for now. I once quit smoking, drinking, and caffeine all at once, same week I started a new job. That was fun and perhaps doomed to failure…

I’m on day 7 of quitting alcohol and cigs, and day 8 of weed. I’m using nicorrette gum for a while.
I always found one would lead on to the other, so it’s easier to quit them all.
However we all have our own journey.

I quit cold turkey on drinking and smoking 41 days ago. Well, 41 drinking, 39 smoking! Not going to lie, first week sucked so bad. I was a hermit, ate what I wanted and didn’t put up with people giving me crap about it. I remember my 4th day no drinking and 2nd no smoking, I stayed in bed for 24hours! I spoke to my boyfriend a couple of times only because he was worried. I don’t regret it at all. I feel better everyday. Do You! I was ready, you have to be ready. This is the best I have done in 10 years and I truly believe I won’t go back this time. Good luck!
